Vincent Kriechmayr & Corinne Suter podium in the speed season finale
Two HEAD Worldcup Rebels - Corinne Suter and Vincent Kriechmayr - round off the speed season with podiums in the Super-G events in Kvitfjell on Sunday. Both finish in second place. Vincent Kriechmayr is also second in the Super-G World Cup ranking. Emma Aicher is in second place in the World Cup overall ranking, just 45 points behind with two more races to go.
"It was a superb run by Vincent Kriechmayr – almost unbelievable that it wasn't enough for victory. Dominik Paris seems to be the expert here in Kvitfjell," said HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "Looking back, it's a shame that so many races were cancelled this season, otherwise things could have turned out quite differently. But it was a good season in the Super-G, and there is plenty to look forward to next time. I’m very pleased for Corinne Suter that she has found her rhythm again following her injury and is performing at such a high level. It's a shame that the hundredths of a second were not on Emma Aicher's side this time. But it's an exciting finish to the season; let's see what happens!
A mere seven hundredths of a second away from victory
Vincent Kriechmayr was just seven hundredths of a second behind the winner, Dominik Paris. This is the sixth podium this season for the 34-year-old Austrian athlete, and his third in the Super-G, "I would love things to continue like this. I'll happily take these two podiums; I'm pleased with that. I could have skied better in the middle section; I was lucky with the wind," said Vincent Kriechmayr at the finish. He also finished second in the Super-G World Cup. World Cup points were also picked up by Franjo von Allmen from Switzerland in 10th place, Ryan Cochran-Siegle from the USA and Guglielmo Bosca from Italy, who shared 12th place, Simon Jocher from Germany 14th, and Matthieu Bailet from France 15th.
The best Super-G result of the season for Corinne Suter
Clocking her best Super-G result of the season, Corinne Suter crossed the finish line in second place. At the end of February in Soldeu, the 31-year-old Swiss athlete finished third in the Super-G. "Crossing the finish line, I didn't think it would be enough to carry me so far forward. I didn't do anything very different this time. But it's best not to think about it too much and have faith. Today's result is very nice as it is," said Corinne Suter.
Emma Aicher just misses the podium
Emma Aicher finished the Super-G in fourth place, missing the podium by just one hundredth of a second. In the World Cup overall ranking, the 22-year-old German athlete is now only 45 points behind Mikaela Shiffrin. Asked about her chances, Emma Aicher says, "I have to ski well. We'll see how it turns out in the end. If it happens, it would be a brilliant boost for me." In the Super-G World Cup, Emma Aicher finished third overall, while Kajsa Vickhoff Lie from Norway finished fourth in this discipline. A total of six HEAD Worldcup Rebels landed in the top ten with the Austrian athletes Cornelia Hütter in fifth place and Ariane Rädler seventh, Elena Curtoni from Italy eighth, and Keely Cashman from the USA tenth. Points also went to Laura Gauche from France in eleventh place, and to the Downhill World Cup champion Laura Pirovano from Italy, who finished 13th.
