Silva Terra Scout X Headlamp

Sometimes, marketing messages seem too gimmicky, but I genuinely smiled when I opened Silva’s headlamp and read: “Hello, I’m your new friend! I hope that I can give you a sense of freedom… Let’s have fun together.” I mean, I know the Terra Scout X is not my new BFF, but I like it when a product can make you smile before you ever turn it on. Speaking of powering it up, the package comes with (disposable) batteries; it’s a little thing, but it’s one of those conveniences that I often forget to add when buying a new product. It’s also compatible with rechargeable, Silva hybrid batteries. Two LED colors switch from white light to red light, which preserves night vision. Made of hemp and recycled plastics, this lightweight lamp, with its soft and adjustable band, is quite comfortable to wear for hours. The relatively large power button makes it easy to operate, and the whole thing is water resistant, so it withstands heavy rain or snow. It combines two brightness levels — 50 lumens which illuminates up to 98 feet, and 300 lumens, which ranges up to 197 feet. A long-reach spotlight and close floodlight mean you don’t have to move your head all over the place to get the right light on the subject, so it makes setting up camp at night easier.
