The 2026 Global Fitness Report
The 2026 Global Fitness Report shows a clear trend: consumers prefer human-led training over AI, driven by community, strength, and well‑being.
Based on responses from over 10,000 consumers across five continents, the 2026 Global Fitness Report shows that despite rapid AI advancements, only 10% choose AI‑generated workouts. While technology supports training, people still prefer human connection, guidance, and confidence - especially to overcome insecurity and ‘gymtimidation’ in strength environments.
Key insights
- 54% want to try new workout styles; 41% find exercise an inconvenience.
- Gym members are 46% more satisfied with their health than non‑members.
- 62% of younger generations (Gen Z / Millennials) like workouts that push their limits.
- Among aspiring strength trainers: 54% feel confused by conflicting advice, and 50% feel uncomfortable in free weight areas.
Human coaching clearly wins—especially with younger generations
- Only 11% (16–27) and 9% (28–40) prefer AI-led workouts.
“Nothing beats the energy of a live class,” says Bryce Hastings, Head of Research at Les Mills. “Instructors create community and help people get more from each workout—something AI can’t yet match.”
A human‑first approach remains essential for long‑term motivation, growth, and member loyalty, with technology best used as support—not replacement.
