Turnpike & Tomra: Frictionless Recycling Experiences > A Key to Grocery Store Loyalty

TOMRA, a global leader in recycling solutions, and Swedish SaaS-company Turnpike have partnered to digitize recycling stations, focusing on enhancing machine operations and improving customer and staff experiences.

As recycling gains importance in retail, efficient return stations become crucial. TOMRA and Turnpike's integrated system allows real-time alerts for assistance and proactive maintenance, ensuring smoother operations.

"In recent studies, we've found that people base their shopping decisions on their recycling experiences. It's now a fact: recycling is deeply ingrained in the Swedish DNA. As retailers, you can leverage this to build loyalty." says Johan Vanerell, CEO of TOMRA Sweden

As the grocery store landscape grows increasingly competitive, a seamless recycling experience has transitioned from a mere convenience to an absolute necessity.

"What's perhaps even more important is that 90% of in-store recyclers use their receipts to make additional purchases. Therefore, ensuring high machine uptime, impeccable recycling experiences, and seamless operations during store hours is paramount," adds Johan.

"Our vision is to leverage technology to enhance humanity and enrich the in-store experience for both staff and customers. By partnering with TOMRA, we're pioneering purposeful IoT solutions that deliver actionable insights from machines directly to the right staff, instantly improving customer satisfaction," states Carl Norberg, Founder of Turnpike

By integrating TOMRA with Turnpike, recycling becomes simpler and more efficient in three ways:

  1. Easy Help: Customers can simply touch the screen for assistance.
  2. Fullness Alerts: Staff are notified when the machine is nearly full, making it easy to empty and manage.
  3. Quick Fixes: If there's an issue, the machine tells staff right away so they can fix it fast, keeping recycling smooth.

The solution is now operational within major grocery chains in Sweden such as ICA, Coop, Hemköp, and Willys.

Markus Wahlgren, Store Manager for Stora Coop Visby, was the first store to sign up and he highlights the significance of proactive solutions in recycling, praising the removal of friction for both customers and staff.
