Formex opens its doors on Tuesday to a truly star-studded program. Designer legend Zandra Rhodes has designed the exhibition in the Entrance Hall – a veritable explosion of color! World-famous trend forecasters Li Edelkoort and Edouard Keller will share their trendspotting. Formex will present its own trendspotting, Formex Trends, and much, much more.
This year’s Guest of Honour – the award-winning Chinese design and architecture office Neri&Hu – is creating an installation at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair that highlights social issues unique to China. The traditional Chinese village, which is disappearing at an alarming rate, is depicted in the installation.
An exhibition at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will be entitled “NM & A New Collection”. It will exhibit the joint creation of the Nationalmuseum’s new restaurant. The exhibition shows the process surrounding the interior design of the restaurant and the production of eighty new interior objects as well as the work on the renovation of the museum.
Formex has always created an exciting exhibition in the Entrance Hall, and this time is no exception – the exhibition will offer “extra everything”! Legendary designer Zandra Rhodes, who is visiting Formex as a Guest Influencer, will create a truly unique exhibition that includes a replica of her own home.
Designers and design schools from all over the world are invited to apply to Greenhouse, Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair’s area for unestablished designers. The jury has now selected the exhibitors for 2019, which include Kajsa Melchior Eriksson, Begüm Cana Özgür and Nikolaj Thrane Carlsen. In total, 37 designers/design groups and 29 design schools from 20 countries will participate.
Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is establishing a new design award – Born Classic – in collaboration with the auction house Bukowskis, which will form the jury. The award will go to a piece of furniture or lighting that has qualities that could make it a design classic of the future. The objective is to bring attention to and encourage good, long lasting design.
Not only will design legend and style icon Zandra Rhodes come to Formex at Stockholmsmässan on January 15-18, but two of the world’s leading trend forecasters, Li Edelkoort and Edouard Keller, will be guests at the leading interiors fair in the Nordics. Formex also presents two completely new areas: Designer Pet and Smart Objects.
Alice Rawsthorn, design critic and journalist, Joel Sanders, architect, and Tom Dixon, designer, will be three of the guest speakers at Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks, the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair’s forum for knowledge and discussions within the area of design and architecture.
What just might be Stockholm’s longest table will be on display at Greenhouse, Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair’s jury-assessed area for young, unestablished designers and design schools. The designers behind the table, duo Thau & Kallio, have been given the assignment to design Greenhouse Bar and Café as well as an exhibition under the direction of the Materials Library.
The jury is in! Formex has selected 25 promising talents – Formex Design Talents – who will exhibit their creations during the Formex Interior Design Fair taking place January 15-18, 2019, at Stockholmsmässan.
Zandra Rhodes is a legend in the design world. Her colorful, flowing clothes have been worn by royalty and celebrity rock stars. At 78, she remains as relevant as ever – with new collections and her own museum. Zandra Rhodes will be the Formex Guest Influencer for the fair in January 2019.
The Norwegian design studio Anderssen & Voll has been given the assignment to create the Design Bar for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 5-9, 2019. This time, the menu is being created in collaboration with Frida Ronge, Culinary Director at the restaurants Tak and UNN in Stockholm.
This fall’s Formex, August 21-24, has an international flair. For example, 150 years of diplomatic ties between Sweden and Japan will be celebrated with an exhibition on Japanese design and craftsmanship. The U.S. trend analyst Lilly Berelovich will also hold a seminar at the fair.
Interest in exhibiting at Design Talents, Formex’s platform for new talent, is greater than ever. The number of foreign applications has also increased. This year, 23 designers were selected to participate in Design Talents, which is part of interior design fair Formex’s mentorship program.
Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair’s award - Editors’ Choice - will be handed out for the third consecutive year. The jury consists of Editors-in-Chief from several of Europe’s most important design forums. The 2018 jury consists of Marcus Fairs, Dezeen; Adeline Seidel, Stylepark; Donatella Bollani, Domus and Costas Voyatzis, Yatzer.
Formex, which will be held January 17-20, is the kick-off for the spring season in the interior design industry. Visitors can listen to many interesting speakers, such as one of the world’s leading trend forecasters, Li Edelkoort, and lifestyle trend expert and researcher Mads Arlien-Søborg. This year’s Formex Formidable design award will be presented at Wednesday’s press breakfast.
For the 100th anniversary of Aunt Green, Aunt Brown and Aunt Lavender, Bonnier Brands is creating the wonderful fairy tale world imagined by the mother of Swedish children’s books, Elsa Beskow. The exhibition is a collaboration with internationally renowned JoAnn Tan Studio.
“A World of Shapes” is the theme of the spring Formex interior design fair, which will be held January 17 20, 2018. Inspired by artist David Hockney, the theme revolves around different interior objects that form still lifes and new groupings to create innovative, playful forms and constellations.
Christian Halleröd design will design the Trend Exhibition - EN-AW 6082 - at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 6-10, 2018. CHd has designed store interiors for Acne Studios and Byredo, among others. The exhibition investigates themes such as real, fake and craftsmanship and is a collaboration with the Materials Library.
In conjunction with the Formex interior design fair to be held on August 22-25, 2018, Formex will head out into the city to arrange a summer edition of Stockholm Design Week.
