For the upcoming edition of Stockholm Design Week a number of new initiatives will be launched to further enhance the experience for the visitors and strengthen the bonds between the city and the fair. It includes a new interactive SDW-app listing all the city exhibitions and a new exhibition concept at the fair called The Library.
On February 8th, Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair once again opens its doors. With the theme “BEing Scandinavian” the 2022 edition has invited the multidisciplinary artist and designer Martin Bergström to create an inspirational exhibition challenging the traditional notion of Scandinavia- expect a poetic installation in the borderline of dark and light.

They are invited to an updated, optimized and experience-driven fair where Scandinavian design and the latest developments in sustainability take center stage like never before.
Due to the current national situation, Formex in August has been canceled. Instead, Formex is providing a whole host of digital activities – the studio program Formex Talks on the three themes of Sustainability, Retail and Global Trends will be streamed on August 24–26, plus the trends for this fall will be presented in a digital trend guide.

The Puffy Lounge Chair has won the Born Classic prize for future design classics, awarded jointly by Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair and Bukowskis. The Puffy Lounge Chair was designed by Faye Toogood for the interior design brand Hem. Bukowskis’ experts Eva Seeman, Björn Extergren and Jonatan Jahn made up this year’s jury.
Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks have established themselves as one of the leading international forums for conversation and debate in the field of Scandinavian design, architecture and urban planning. February 10-11 a large number of international and Scandinavian experts will take part in digital talks, interviews and a range of fascinating panel debates.
Stockholmsmässan has been awarded the Penguin Prize for its innovative ways of communicating with exhibitors and visitors in order to increase the volume of recycled material, which is one of many important climate goals for the City of Stockholm.
Last week, Stockholmsmässan reported that two of the spring’s biggest events – Formex and Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair which were due to be held in January and February have been cancelled. Now the decision has also been taken to postpone Nordbygg from April 20-23, 2021 to April 26-29, 2022.
It is now clear that Stockholmsmässan is obliged to cancel two of its largest events scheduled for Q1 2021, namely Formex (the largest home and interior design trade fair in the Nordic region, which should have taken place in January) and the internationally recognised Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, which is customarily arranged in February each year.
ECO-Betong from Swerock has been declared the winner of Nordbygg’s Gold Medal for 2020. The award is jointly backed by Nordbygg, industry magazine Byggindustrin and Svensk Byggtjänst. This year, the jury choose to recognize a product with a long history of constant development that could have a crucial impact on the future: climate-enhanced concrete, symbolized by ECO-Betong from Swerock.
Today it was confirmed that industry organization Swedish Wood will be the Sustainability Partner for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. This year Formex, the Nordic region’s biggest interiors fair, celebrates its 60th anniversary. The fair usually takes place twice a year, but the August event had to be cancelled. Instead, Team Formex provided interior design inspiration via city showcases and digital seminars – an initiative that proved very popular.

Summer Design Week takes place in Stockholm from August 17-23. On display is a selection of the very latest from the Scandinavian design scene, mixed with classics. Product launches, exhibitions and workshops are some of the activities that visitors can choose to participate in, all under safe conditions with a limited number of places at each event.
From August 17-22, parts of Formex, the Nordic region’s largest interior decorating and design fair, will move into the city centre and offer visitors free inspiration, networking and the opportunity to see some of the newest items that will be launched in the autumn, all in a restricted and safe environment at Volvo Studio in Stockholm.
