Arla expects to serve 25 billion glasses of milk in 2014

The amount of drinking milk that Arla will produce in 2014 would be enough to potentially serve 3.5 milk glasses for every person on the planet.

This staggering number of 250ml glasses, more specifically 25,297,087,378, will come from Arla’s fresh, UHT and milk powder operations around the world. This amount represents a bit over half of Arla’s entire milk production expected for 2014.

Just to get an idea of how much milk that is, lining up all the glasses would be enough to circle the Earth’s equator 47 times.

That’s pretty cool! But what happens when stacking all these glasses? Well, you could reach the Moon, not once, but almost 7 times.

What’s so special about milk?

As part of a healthy diet, global authorities recommend 2-3 servings of milk or other dairy products per day.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, milk is one of the most unique foods. Globally, milk and dairy products are considered of high importance in human nutrition, as milk contains numerous nutrients (22) and makes a significant contribution to meet the body's need for calcium, vitamin B2, vitamin B12, iodine, potassium and phosphorous (FAO 2013[1]).

At Arla, we also believe dairy products play an important role in a balanced diet. But health benefits are only one piece of the puzzle. While serving the growing global demand for dairy products, Arla wants to be the most natural and sustainable global dairy company. This means offering natural food with high nutritional value to people across the world, while using as few of nature's resources as possible.

So why is milk good for you?

From drinking only 1 glass of milk (250ml) you will get approximately:

·  8.3 g of protein (~17% NRV*)

·  300mg of calcium (~38% of NRV*)

·  0.43 mg vitamin B2 (~30% of NRV*)

·  1.2 µg vitamin B12 (~48% of NRV*)

* NRV= EU nutrient reference values

And there’s more…

Longing to grow up?

Milk contains calcium, which is needed for normal growth and development of bone in children and for maintenance of bone mass in adults.

Feeling tired?

Milk contains Vitamin B12 and Vitamin B2, which contribute to reduction of tiredness and fatigue.

Keeping an eye on your normal vision

Milk fat is naturally high in vitamin A, which contributes to the maintenance of normal vision.

And don’t forget to say cheese!

Milk helps protect your smile because calcium is needed for maintenance of normal teeth.
