Emergency investigations and repairs on a collapsed carriageway at the junction of Heywood Road and Bury New Road in Prestwich, diversions are in place. Please allow extra time for your journey. Bury Council and United Utilities’ engineers have now determined that the hole under Bury New Road in Prestwich is as a result of a collapsed sewer.

A deep hole has appeared in the middle of the carriageway on Heywood Road between numbers 186 and 188. Currently, the collapse of a United Utilities sewer is suspected as the cause.
Roadworks will soon be taking place in Rectory Lane, Prestwich from its junction with Heywood Road to its junction with Rectory Avenue and from its junctions between Heywood Road and Whittaker Lane/Bent Lane.
