Press release -

Carers Week 2022

Make caring Visible, Valued and Supported.

Bury is celebrating the invaluable work that thousands of unpaid carers across the borough do every day of the year.

Carers Week, which runs from 6 to 12 June, is an annual campaign that recognises the vital contribution of the UK’s unpaid carers – supporting family members and friends who are older, have a disability, mental or physical illness or need extra help as they grow older.

Not everyone sees themselves as a carer. Caring is often part and parcel of family life and close friendships. For many, caring is something that happens gradually when someone becomes older or has a progressive illness. For others, it arises suddenly, for example, as the result of an accident, stroke or because of coronavirus, leading to the need for a longer recovery and more support.

Provided through n-compass, the Bury Carers Hub provides information, advice and a wide range of specialist support services designed to help adult carers continue in their caring role for as long as they choose and reduce the impact the caring role can have on their own health and wellbeing.

During Carers Week, Bury Carers Hub will be holding carer-related information sessions, organised walks, fun activities and the weekly ‘coffee and chat' session.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said "As part of carers week, we in Bury are working hard to ensure that we keep on theme of making caring visible, valued, and supported. I am delighted to see so many different activities taking place throughout the week for young and older carers as well as working and studying carers. It is important to understand the vital role carers play within our community and support carers across the borough, as we know the challenges that come with caring for a friend, family member or loved one while trying to maintain a career and life outside of caring."
