Active London 2020 to focus on building equality in physical activity

Active London 2020, the capital's only conference dedicated to grassroots physical activity in London, returns this year as a free-to-attend digital event focusing on physical activity and sport's role in building a more equal London.

With the covid-19 pandemic having thrown into sharp relief the inequalities experienced by many Londoners, this year's Active London event will explore the sport sector's response and its role in positively influencing the lives of people from all backgrounds over the coming decade.

Delivered across four days, Active London 2020 will explore four strands of inequality - and the roles and relationship between them and the physical activity and sport industry.

Day 1 - Back On Our Feet - Monday 12 October

In the space of a few months, life in the capital has been turned upside down. The first day of Active London 2020 will set the scene for the week ahead, explore why inequalities persist across London and the UK, and ask how physical activity and sport can ensure it doesn't exacerbate inequality of access and opportunity.

Day 2 - The Real London - Tuesday 13 October

To understand how inequalities influence people's life choices, it's vital that the voices of disadvantaged communities are heard and respected. The second day of Active London 2020 will invite delegates to hear first-hand from Londoners who understand the impact of inequalities through their own lived experiences and explore what the role of physical activity and sport is when working to support diverse communities.

Day 3 - Active Together - Wednesday 14 October

Improving access to physical activity will need us to better understand the place-based conditions and systems that influence people's lives. Day 3 of Active London 2020 will take a deeper view of what we mean when we talk about place-based working and systems change, and explore how physical activity and sport can become part of sustainable solutions to local challenges and objectives.

Day 4 - An Equal Future - Thursday 15 October

As the covid-19 pandemic spread across the world, trends that might have taken years to take hold have accelerated at a pace that risks leaving the physical activity and sport sector playing catch-up. On the final day of Active London 2020, we will explore what those changes mean for life in the capital, and how changes in thinking here in the UK and around the world might shape a more equal future for physical activity in London.

With a world-class speaker line-up already confirmed and further announcements to be made in the coming weeks, Active London 2020 will offer a varied and thought-provoking agenda, along with the usual opportunities to network with others within and outside of the sector through the event's bespoke digital platform.
