Invitation to digital press conference about the new MUNCH - Opening date and exhibition programme

Invitation to digital press conference

The planned opening of the new MUNCH had to be postponed from the original plan in 2020 to the autumn of 2021 due to remaining work, central operating systems and COVID-19.

MUNCH will be a playful, innovative and eventful house, filled with new opportunities for engaging art experiences. MUNCH will offer art and culture spread over 13 floors, topped with Oslo's best view over the Oslo fjord.

Now the opening date is set and will be announced by the museum on May 27 at 2 pm via a digital press conference.

Stein Olav Henrichsen, Director of MUNCH, will be joined by the architects estudio Herreros for a digital launch event from Bjørvika in Oslo on May 27 at 2 pm (CEST) to detail the plans for the opening this autumn, followed by a short Q&A.

The press conference will be broadcast directly from MUNCH in Oslo via the livestream here.

Oslo has over the last few years become a major hub for art and culture, with openings of museums, art galleries and other cultural institutions. The last major opening was in 2020 with the new Deichman Library in Bjørvika, and in 2022 the city will see the opening of Norway's largest collection of art, design and architecture, the National Museum.

The world’s largest collection of works by Edvard Munch makes Oslo an art destination out of the ordinary.
