Swedish fighter jets tracking Russian submarine in the Kattegat
On Friday, Swedish JAS 39 Gripen intercepted a Russian Kilo-class submarine in the Kattegat. Together with allies, the Swedish Armed Forces are now monitoring the submarine’s continued route into the Baltic Sea. The operation is part of our routine activities, which maintain the Armed Forces’ strong situational awareness in our immediate area and ensure Swedish and allied territorial integrity.

Swedish conscripts train in Alaska
In February, a platoon of Swedish conscripts and their commanding officers from Dalregementet (I 13) in Falun joined the U.S.-led JPMRC 26-02 exercise in Alaska.

Swedish Air Force Rangers train with Denmark in Greenland
The Swedish Air Force Rangers are participating in the Danish exercise series Arctic Endurance 26 in Greenland. The unit redeployed last week using transport aircraft from Sweden to strengthen security in the area and to practice the defense of NATO’s northern flank.

Swedish Fighter Aircraft Deployed to Iceland
On Monday, 2 February, a group consisting of six Swedish JAS 39 Gripen aircraft landed at Keflavík Air Base, Iceland. During February–March, the Swedish Air Force will contribute to NATO’s incident preparedness, NATO Air Policing. This is the 55th rotation for Iceland—the first for the Swedish Air Force and for Skaraborg Air Wing F 7.

Medical personnel from six NATO countries train in subarctic conditions in Northern Sweden
Providing medical care in extreme cold presents unique challenges. To strengthen international capability in subarctic conditions, the Swedish Armed Forces Centre for Defence Medicine regularly conducts advanced training in northern Sweden. Most recently, medical personnel from six NATO countries took part in an eight-day course focused on cold-weather medical care.

The Swedish Air Force traditional ”Christmas tree flights” – a display of Christmas spirit and the Nordic Air Power
The Swedish Armed Forces ”Christmas tree flights” will this year have guest appearances by our Nordic colleagues and allies from the Armed Forces of Denmark and Finland. This year the JAS 39 Gripen E will lead one of the formations for the first time.
Since Sweden’s NATO membership the collaboration between the Nordic Air Forces have deepened further as part of the Nordic Air power concept.
