This autumn, the Swedish Armed Forces will contribute units to strengthen Finland’s territorial defence against drones. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has led to an increase in drone incursions into allied airspace, including Finnish airspace. The Swedish Armed Forces are now strengthening the Alliance’s eastern defence with counter-drone capabilities in the air and at sea.
Sweden will donate JAS 39 Gripen C/D fighter aircraft to Ukraine. This was announced during a press conference at the Uppland Air Force Wing (F 16), the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson. This support will be of major importance in Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Ramstein, Germany - The Swedish Air Force, supported by NATO Allied Air Command (NATO AIRCOM), will host a media event at the Norrbotten Wing, Kallax Air Base, on 16 June as part of Ramstein Flag 26 (RAFL26).
On 13 October, HMS Queen Elizabeth arrives in Gothenburg, Sweden. Media is invited to come along to the archipelago to meet up with the vessel and take pictures up close.
