H2med Has Once Again Been Confirmed as an EU Project of Common Interest
The European hydrogen corridor H2med has once again been designated a Project of Common Interest (PCI). The updated EU list also strengthens Germany's connection to the corridor for the first time. This places greater emphasis on access to green hydrogen imports from Southwestern Europe for Germany's energy supply. Key sub-projects such as the BarMar (Barcelona–Marseille) and CelZa (Portugal–Spain) links, as well as the connected national hydrogen grids, retain their status.
This decision underscores the progress and increasing maturity of the project. H2med aims to connect renewable hydrogen production capacities in Southwestern Europe with industrial demand centers in Central Europe. In addition to existing projects, further infrastructure projects along the corridor have also been included, such as transport, storage, and grid connection solutions.
With PCI status, the projects benefit from accelerated permitting processes and improved funding opportunities, for example, through the Connecting Europe Facility.
