Planning the third age pays off

Many Danes are urged to save more money for their pension to be able to afford the desired holidays and experiences in the third age. Saving up is part of the solution, but with a little planning in time, it does not have to be a nuisance. Planning the disbursement of your pension savings can actually bring substantial gains – and did for more than 40 employees among Aon’s clients in 2016.

What should I do?

First of all, you should decide when you need your savings, when you are approaching the last ten years on the labour market. Do you want to receive a large amount at the beginning of your retirement or evenly distributed amounts throughout the years, or do you need to take into account other projects at certain times?

At Aon, we organise senior seminars aimed at making you better equipped to make the necessary pension choices and decisions before your pension savings are paid. We can also carry out a so-called ‘senior analysis’ to optimise your different pension plans based on your personal needs and tax conditions.

What can I save?

A senior analysis is a comprehensive analysis of your actual pension situation. The senior analysis can help you save a lot of money. Therefore, it is a service, which the individual employee pays for separately. That said, we know from experience that there may be situations, which you cannot affect. Therefore, we have chosen to carry out the analysis free of charge if we are unable to optimise your pension plans with a minimum of DKK 50,000.

Last year, we ensured pension plan optimisations of more than DKK 7.5 million. On average, the employees who received a senior analysis added approx. DKK 180,000 to their pension savings. There was a significant difference, however, with a few employees not being able to save more than around DKK 15,000, while others received an additional million.

If the plan changes

The disadvantage of planning in good time is, of course, that changes may occur before reaching retirement age, which means the plan must be revised. Changes may entail a change in the expected savings.

We always recommend you to contact us when significant things happen in your life, or if your wishes and dreams for the third age change. We need to cooperate with you to customise your plans to suit your needs. Your pension is your livelihood upon retirement, and we cannot generalise or standardise the recommendations on how to get the most out of your pension disbursement.
