Bastian Buus in iconic outfit for the Suzuka 1,000-kilometre race

Porsche’s winning car from 1981 will be recreated when Bastian Buus lines up for this year’s edition of the famous Suzuka 1,000-kilometre race in September.

Bastian Buus is one of the drivers announced by Porsche Motorsport to compete for victory in next month’s Suzuka 1,000-kilometre race. The Dane will race for Origine Motorsport – a familiar team for Buus, with whom he claimed a race win in the GT World Challenge Asia in June – joining a strong line-up alongside Porsche colleagues Laurin Heinrich and Alessio Picariello.

"This is fantastic news and a legendary race that I am looking forward to taking on. Both my teammates and I have achieved top results with Origine Motorsport in Asia, so we are bringing a strong line-up. The team has also secured the GT World Challenge Asia title for the past two years, so the ambitions are certainly high," said Bastian Buus.

The race at Suzuka is the fourth round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, which brings together the world’s best GT3 teams. Bastian Buus has already made his mark in the championship, finishing on the podium at the gruelling 24 Hours of Nürburgring earlier this summer with Dinamic GT – and he was just one and a half seconds away from another podium in the 12 Hours of Bathurst in 2024.

At Suzuka, the Dane and his teammates will also pay tribute to Porsche’s historic achievements, as their Porsche 911 GT3 R will feature a livery inspired by the 1981 winning car. Back then, a Porsche 935 K3 from Kremer Racing not only secured the marque’s first victory at Suzuka – it was also the first time a foreign team had won the Japanese classic, which Porsche has since claimed no fewer than eleven times.

This year’s edition of the Suzuka 1,000-kilometre race takes place on Sunday, 14 September, and will be broadcast live on YouTube.
