Bastian Buus Wins at Magny-Cours – Championship Within Reach

Another victory for Bastian Buus in the GT World Challenge Europe, where the Danish Porsche factory driver and Lionspeed GP are now even closer to securing the championship title.

The third round of the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup for Bronze teams turned out to be a strong one for Bastian Buus. Together with teammate Bashar Mardini and the rest of the Lionspeed GP crew, the Dane claimed his second win of the season in one of the weekend’s two sprint races at Magny-Cours – bringing the Porsche duo another step closer to the championship.

“Overall, it was another good weekend where everything went our way in the first race, which gave us a victory and a lot of points. Unfortunately, we couldn’t carry the success over into the second race, where a post-race penalty dropped us to seventh place,” said Bastian Buus.

The disappointing end to the second sprint race came after an otherwise strong performance, where Buus and Mardini had fought their way forward through the field to cross the line in fourth after starting from ninth. However, the weekend’s overall result means that the pairing still holds on to second place in the Bronze Cup standings.

With just seven and a half points separating them from the leaders – and 35 points still up for grabs in the season finale at the Nürburgring in three weeks – the stage is set for a dramatic showdown.

“It will be all or nothing. Even though securing a spot on the championship podium would already be a strong achievement for the whole team, of course we are aiming for the very top step – and I believe it’s possible. A big thanks to the team for another strong weekend,” added Buus.

The fourth and final round of the GT World Challenge Europe for Bronze teams will take place on August 30–31 at Germany’s Nürburgring.
