Frederik Schandorff to make IMSA comeback at Indianapolis

One of the highlights of the IMSA season awaits the Danish Ferrari driver, who will line up for the six-hour race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with high expectations.

After a disappointing outing at Virginia International Raceway, where a stop-and-go penalty cost him a potential top result, Frederik Schandorff and the rest of the Inception Racing crew are ready to strike back in one of the biggest races of the IMSA season. The Dane heads into the six-hour contest at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway with confidence that the team’s strong pace can translate into silverware.

"We are expecting quite a lot from this weekend, no doubt about it. Our pace has been really strong lately, and in Virginia we set the fastest lap in class, but unfortunately we haven’t been able to convert that into strong results. The hope is, of course, that our performance this weekend will translate into a good finish – hopefully a podium or even a win," said Frederik Schandorff.

Preparations for the American endurance classic have gone well so far, with the team’s Ferrari 296 GT3 running at the top of the GTD field in Friday’s opening practice session. Alongside his regular teammate, Brendan Iribe, Frederik Schandorff will also be joined by the team’s endurance driver, Oliver Millroy.

"It’s gone really well so far, which naturally raises expectations even higher. But it’s going to be a tough race, and even though we have the pace, we still need to make sure we avoid the mistakes and incidents that have cost us top results in recent rounds," Schandorff added.

Round nine of the IMSA Championship for GTD teams got underway Friday afternoon Danish time and continues with practice and qualifying on Saturday, September 20, before the six-hour race goes green on Sunday, September 21, at 11:40 a.m. local time.
