GTWC Asia: Bastian Buus chasing trophies in Japan
The Danish Porsche factory driver is back in GT World Challenge Asia, as the championship heads to Okayama in Japan for its fifth round this coming weekend.
When Bastian Buus lines up with Origine Motorsport for round five of GT World Challenge Asia this weekend, it will be at a circuit that brings back some very special memories. The action takes place at Japan’s Okayama Circuit – the track where Buus last year scored his first-ever overall pole position in a GT3 race.
That achievement has played a big part in the Dane once again joining forces with the Chinese squad for selected rounds of the championship this season. Buus helped the team to a class victory in the third round in Thailand, and the ambitions are just as high for the Japanese weekend.
“The team is unfortunately no longer in contention for this year’s championship, but that gives us the opportunity to be more aggressive in the fight for top results. We were strong in Thailand, and I’m confident that we have what it takes to secure a podium, maybe even two, this weekend,” said Bastian Buus.
The Dane will once again share the car with his regular teammate, Lu Wei, as the duo takes on 12 other teams in the highly competitive Pro-Am class.
This weekend’s two sprint races also serve as preparation for the 1,000-kilometer race at Suzuka on September 14 – the fourth round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge – where Bastian Buus will once again support Origine Motorsport in their hunt for silverware.
Round five of GT World Challenge Asia will be contested over two 60-minute races, with green flag on Saturday, August 30 at 13:00 local time (06:00 CEST) and Sunday, August 31 at 10:00 local time (03:00 CEST). Both races will be streamed live on YouTube (Race 1, Race 2).
