GTWC Europe: Sebastian Øgaard takes on Nürburgring with new teammate
The Danish Audi driver will be joined by an experienced teammate when he lines up for the eighth round of GT World Challenge Europe this coming weekend at Nürburgring.
Sebastian Øgaard is hoping to continue his streak of podium-winning weekends as he returns to GT World Challenge Europe this weekend. And the Dane has every reason to be optimistic, as he will share his Tresor Competition Audi R8 with the experienced Job van Uitert.
The 26-year-old Dutchman, a former LMP3 champion in the European Le Mans Series who recently crossed the finish line first in the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January (a victory later stripped from the team due to a penalty), replaces Leonardo Moncini, Øgaard’s regular teammate in the Sprint Cup championship.
“Job brings a lot of experience to the team, which we need in the fight for a top result in the Gold Cup class. I’m looking forward to sharing the car with him and hopefully learning a lot. He’s a strong driver, and I know him quite well since we share the same management (5P Agency), so I’m really looking forward to the weekend,” said Sebastian Øgaard.
Øgaard will line up for this weekend’s three-hour race, which serves as the penultimate round of the Endurance Cup championship, where the Dane and his team currently hold seventh place. The third driver is Italian Riccardo Cazzaniga.
“While we’ve had great success with several podium finishes in the Sprint Cup championship, the Endurance Cup races have been more of a challenge. I hope that with Job on board we can secure a podium at Nürburgring, which is also one of my favorite tracks. The weather can be a bit tricky – it changes a lot in that area – but I’m not too worried about that. I just can’t wait to get going,” added the Dane.
The eighth round of GT World Challenge Europe – and the fifth round of the Endurance Cup – goes green on Sunday, August 31 at 15:00 CEST and will be streamed live on YouTube.
