Sebastian Øgaard Secures Double Podium at Magny-Cours
The streak of top results continues for the Danish Audi driver, who climbs to fourth place in the GT World Challenge standings after another strong sprint weekend.
Another pair of trophies was added to the collection of Sebastian Øgaard, who claimed two third-place finishes in the seventh round of GT World Challenge Europe this past weekend at Magny-Cours in France. This lifts his tally of podium finishes this season to seven – and moves the Danish Audi driver up to fourth place in the overall Gold Cup standings.
“It feels great to add two more podiums, and the extra points strengthen our fight for the championship. A strong effort from the whole team in what was otherwise quite a challenging weekend,” said Sebastian Øgaard.
Together with his Italian Tresor Competition teammate, Leonardo Moncini, Øgaard started the weekend’s first race from fourth on the grid and looked set for a top result when a difficult pit stop dropped the team just outside the podium places. However, a penalty for a rival team moved the Italian outfit up one position – securing their first trophy of the weekend.
“In Sunday’s race we also started from fourth, and I was making my way forward when I put a wheel off track and went into the gravel shortly after the start. Luckily, I was able to continue, but I had lost 13 positions, so from there it was a long and tough fight to regain what we had lost,” Øgaard explained.
The off-track excursion, however, gave the Dane the chance to showcase his talent, as he worked his way back up the order before handing the Audi R8 GT3 to Moncini midway through the race. The Italian continued the charge, and the duo crossed the finish line to secure an impressive third place in the Gold Cup class.
“It was great to show what we are capable of, even if it’s of course a bit frustrating to miss out on what might have been our first win. But we’re bringing home two trophies and moving up in the standings, and we should be pleased with that after such a weekend. A big thanks to the whole team for another strong effort.”
Next up for Øgaard, Moncini, and the rest of Tresor Competition is the eighth round of GT World Challenge Europe, taking place at Germany’s Nürburgring on August 30–31.
