📝 Oral history has long been one of the most powerful tools in the #museum practitioner’s repertoire: a means of recovering voices that written records erase and of giving archives a pulse. Yet when the histories we are documenting concern atrocity, forced displacement, sexual violence or collective persecution, the work transforms. 💡 #ICOMVoices is an editorial space on the ICOM website that allows #museum and heritage professionals and researchers to share their experiences and reflections. 👉 Read the full ICOM Voices at icom.museum and via the link in bio

Museums are not silent spaces. They are spaces of dialogue, education, and empathy. For this International Museum Day, ICOM Director General Medea S. Ekner reflects on the role of museums in uniting a divided world. From the devastation of the Second World War to today’s global challenges, museums have remained places of resilience, where communities reconnect with shared heritage, rebuild trust, and imagine more peaceful futures. Filmed at the Museum of Modern Art in Budapest, @medeaekner’s message reminds us that museums bridge cultures, connect generations, and help shape a more inclusive and united world. This year’s IMD theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, calls on museums everywhere to stand as spaces of connection, understanding, and hope.
