Fredrik Lindfors successfully defends national sommelier title

For the second year in a row, Grand Hôtel’s head sommelier won the Swedish Championship in sommelierie, which took place at Berns Salonger in Stockholm on Sunday. The final comprises seven parts, including serving, decanting, detailed wine recommendations and correction of a wine list. It also includes identification of wine personalities, properties and regions, and finally an exhilarating blind tasting test. Fredrik completed all seven parts with great finesse.

I’m extremely happy and proud of this win. In all honesty, I felt even more pressure this year than last year because this time it was all about defending the title, which makes it feel extra special. Now I’m aiming for the winner’s podium in the Nordic Championship, which will take place in Helsinki this autumn,” says Fredrik Lindfors, head sommelier, Grand Hôtel Stockholm.

The Swedish Championship is arranged annually by the Swedish Sommelier Association, whose primary objective is to enhance the status of the profession. The championship also opens the door to competing internationally.
