GLEAMING NEW LOBBY WELCOMES GUESTS AT THE GRAND HÔTEL

The Grand Hôtel in Stockholm is stepping into 2015 in style, with a refurbishment of its lobby to further enhance the welcoming ambience of this iconic hotel.

The lobby area at the Grand Hôtel has been closed for renovation since January 6 2015. Now, a new, lighter version is being unveiled, showcasing white Carrara marble flooring with plush carpet inlays and new furniture arrangements, featuring original late 19th century pieces coupled with modern design elements and strong accent colours. The decor is inspired by 1874, the year the hotel was built, which is highlighted by four stunning chandeliers.

The lighting and sound system has been completely reconfigured to enhance the hotel’s warm and inviting atmosphere. Designed not only to use direct light from the chandeliers and floor lamps, the new lighting system also works with indirect lighting, utilising the unique architecture of the ceiling, pillars and pilasters. The aim is to enhance the decor and render a soft, embracing light that creates a welcoming impression.

Both the lighting and sound system sources are concealed from the guests. The lighting is designed to automatically adapt to the time of the day and the season. Consequently, the system can detect incoming light and discern, for example, between a sunny and cloudy day. The solution also includes a unique system for the chandeliers, specially designed with small, inbuilt LED lights to reflect the light upwards via the crystal pieces.

“The lobby is naturally very important for us as this is where guests get their first impression of the hotel. The lobby is also the heart of our establishment and crucial to its overall ambiance. Today’s guests expect the lobby of a five star hotel to hold the same standard as the rest of their experience. We have now implemented a solution, tailored specifically for the Grand Hôtel, in which the decor, light and sound come together to create a harmonious, comfortable environment, where our guests can relax and enjoy themselves,” explains Pia Djupmark, CEO, Grand Hôtel.
