Grand Hôtel presents two newly renovated floors

12.05.2022

Grand Hôtel Stockholm is in a constant state of renewal, and recently extensive renovations of the facade, entrance, rooms and suites have been done. This spring, floors five and six will open in all their colourful splendour. The two floors, which have their own style and architecture, have been renovated with carefully selected colours and materials that highlight the full potential of the rooms.

During the 1950s, the Grand Hôtel was expanded, adding two floors to the current main building. The two floors were given a contemporary style and architecture and therefore stand out to some extent from the rest of the hotel. This was the starting point when designer Fanny Widén was commissioned to create cosy, comfortable and functional rooms for the modern business traveller. The two floors comprise 75 rooms and the colour scheme is in three different basic shades: brown/beige, turquoise/blue and purple/grey, which are combined with accent colours.

- Grand Hôtel is a living destination that is constantly changing and growing with the contemporary. We will always be a hotel of absolute international top class, and to be that, we need to constantly challenge and develop. In recent years, the hotel has undergone extensive changes that include all parts of the hotel. Changes that help ensure that there is a clear place for the Grand Hôtel now and in the future. It is with great pleasure that we can now present floors five and six. Two absolutely fantastic floors in their own characteristic style but with a clear Grand Hôtel feeling," says Pia Djupmark, CEO of Grand Hôtel.

The modern business traveller in focus

The rooms on floors five and six are welcoming and cosy with light colours on the walls and floors, steel partitions and glass doors to the bathrooms as part of the light and airy feeling. The beds are adorned with a magnificent patterned headboard that catches the guest's eye. The furniture in the rooms is carefully designed to create a sense of space, and a large number of the pieces are specially designed for the Grand Hôtel and made in Sweden and Northern Europe. All the furniture has been carefully selected to give the rooms a neat feeling. The bathrooms are true Grand Hôtel class with Carrera marble and exclusive Geberit shower toilets in all rooms.

- The rooms are designed with the modern business traveller in mind. We wanted the classic 50s architecture to embrace contemporary design with a Scandinavian touch. To do this, it was important to bring in the light and create modern rooms with a focus on comfort. The obvious choice was to work with light floors, glass and light colours in combination with lovely textiles. All in all, it makes for very lovely and cosy rooms," says designer Fanny Widén.

Renewal work at the Grand Hôtel

In recent years, Grand Hôtel has made a number of major renovations and remodelling projects. In 2018, the façade of the main building underwent an extensive renovation. Over the years, the Grand Hôtel's building has not only expanded and added more floors, but also changed its façade as the architectural epochs changed. During its recent renovation, the hotel took the opportunity to recreate a façade that tells its story. Using the documentation of the changes that the building has undergone, the best of each era has been highlighted. Like the growth rings on a tree, the hotel's history can now be read in the detailed façade.

To complete the facade project, the hotel opened up its newly built main entrance in 2021, where influential values in the work were increased accessibility and sustainability.

The Bolinder Palace, which has 19 rooms and suites and floor seven with the Flag and Roof Suite, have also been renovated and renewed in recent years. Each renewal phase has its own distinctive character with its own choice of colours and interior design elements. The Grand Hôtel places great value on the individual possibilities and characteristics of the rooms to make each room unique.

The Grand Hôtel covers 48,000 square metres and has a total of 279 rooms. 70 of them are suites, of which 11 are signature suites.
