Grand Hôtel launches wine club

The Grand Hôtel’s venerable wine cellar contains one of the Nordic region’s largest collections of quality wines, with over 20,000 bottles including Mouton-Rothschild from 1874 and Pol Roger 1914 vintage. Wine aficionados will now have the opportunity to come and taste part of this superb wine collection, as the Grand Hôtel is now opening a new wine club in collaboration with head sommelier Lasse Solum.

Under the Cadier bar lies the Grand Hôtel’s wine cellar, containing over 1,800 different wine labels, with the oldest bottles dating back to the hotel’s inauguration in 1874. This legacy has been nurtured and expanded over the years by highly skilled and qualified sommeliers, resulting in a selection of wine with a depth and breadth that is unique in Sweden today.
“Since the start in 1874, wine has been an integral part of the Grand Hôtel’s ambition of being a leader in gastronomy in Stockholm. With the Veranda, the Cadier bar as well as the Mathias Dahlgren Matbaren and Matsalen, we offer a diversity of places where guests can enjoy our wines, said Marie-Louise Kjellström, CEO, Grand Hôtel.

In spring 2012, the Grand Hôtel will launch a new wine club, under the direction of award-winning head sommelier Lasse Solum, who will be providing members with unique facts, tips on good wines and a variety of wine tasting events with different themes. The club targets wine aficionados, and members will receive regular newsletters via email containing useful information about wine trips, auctions, fairs and other exciting news from the world of wine.

Lasse Solum has been the head sommelier at the Grand Hôtel since 2007. In 2010, he was awarded the prestigious ‘Sommelier of the year’ title in Sweden and has been expanding and nurturing the Grand Hôtel’s unique wine collection ever since.
“Our new wine club is a natural progression, through which we will be able to showcase the breadth and depth of our exceptional wines and share expertise about wines, districts, fairs and other wine-related matters,” said Lasse Solum.
