Grand Hôtel re-launches the most impressive suite in Sweden

The Grand Hôtel in Stockholm is carrying out an extensive renovation of all rooms and suites in the Burmanska Palace part of the hotel this year. Located on the top floor, is the Princess Lilian suite – Grand Hôtel’s premier suite, an expansive 330 square metres in size. Inaugurated in 2006, the Princess Lilian Suite now has a completely new interior following the renovation. Refurbishment of the other rooms and suites in the Burmanska Palace are done in contemporary overtones in a classical framework.

The exclusively-appointed Princess Lilian suite, with a spacious 330 square meters, is one of a kind. The suite houses a roomy lounge area, two bedrooms, a spa section with new exercise equipment, a private cinema, a kitchen and two terraces with spectacular views of the waterfront and the Royal Palace. Following the refurbishment, this magnificent space meets even higher standards of international exclusivity. All floors in the suite have been replaced with parquet flooring, with the exception of the bedrooms, which now have new, hand-woven, wall-to-wall carpeting. The colour palate is light and subdued, with tones of grey-blue, cream and gold. The furniture has been sourced from all over the world, with several pieces specially designed for the suite. Moreover, a large portrait of Princess Lilian by the artist Fabian Edelstam further highlights the connection to the suite’s namesake. Behind the refurbishment of the Princess Lilian suite is interior designer Sanna Nathanson, who has headed up previous room renovation projects at the Grand Hôtel.

The other rooms and suites in the Burmanska Palace are decorated in contemporary overtones, in a classic framework that is Scandinavian in character with graphic elements, consisting of three colour palettes, Royal, Sand and Blond. The subdued colour and material selections are a blend of marble, white- and black-stained wood, and velvet-meets-silk curtains, along with exquisite leather, wool, and linen elements, and brass details. Fine-art photography depicting classic Grand Hôtel milieus bolsters the three colour schemes. The halls are painted in dark monochrome, enhancing the contrast between the halls and the rooms, and creating a lighter, more open feeling. The walls of the rooms are in soft-white with contrasting warm grey-painted woodwork. Classic chandeliers are complemented with contemporary lighting fixtures, creating a dynamic lighting setting. DAP architects are behind the refurbishment of the hotel rooms in the Burmanska Palace, done in a contemporary style, while preserving and updating the Grand Hôtel look and feel.

“Following the renovation, the Burmanska Palace part of the hotel will be a contemporary version of the Grand Hôtel, while preserving the hotel’s unique historic allure. This part of the hotel differs from the main building, with a more contemporary Scandinavian style, while retaining the Grand experience. The design interpretations made by Sanna Nathanson and DAP work extremely well and all rooms in the Burmanska Palace are truly magnificent. The hotel rooms at the Grand Hôtel are in great demand and therefore it is important for us to continuously update and renovate our rooms in order to maintain the very highest of international standards, now and in the future,” says Pia Djupmark, CEO, Grand Hôtel
