Grand Hôtel Stockholm signs up star architect Martin Brudnizki

In spring 2018, two of Grand Hôtel’s signature suites will undergo a complete redesign. For the job, the hotel has selected Swedish-born Martin Brudnizki, a world-renowned, award-winning interior architect who is based in London and New York. The renovation of the suites marks Brudnizki’s first project in Sweden.

Grand Hôtel’s signature suites are situated on the top floor of the hotel’s main building, offering unparalleled views of the Stockholm waterfront and the Royal Palace. The suites, which have long been among the most exclusive accommodation in the city, are now being updated by one of the world’s most accoladed interior architects.

“Having the opportunity to work with Martin Brudnizki is nothing short of fantastic and that he has chosen to do his first project in Sweden here at the Grand Hôtel is a great honour for us. We strive to work with the best in class in everything we do, making Martin the perfect partner for us. We are eagerly awaiting the end results,” says Pia Djupmark, CEO, Grand Hôtel.

Martin Brudnizki, who was born in Stockholm, has spent his entire professional life abroad. In 2000, he established the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio (MBDS) in London, followed by a second studio in New York in 2012. MBDS is an internationally acclaimed interior architecture and design studio with extensive experience in creating interiors for hotels, restaurants, bars and private members’ clubs. MBDS works across the world with notable clients, including: Four Seasons, Rosewood Hotels & Resort, Soho House Group, Caprice Holdings and The Royal Academy of Arts. The Grand Hôtel has now been added to Brudnizki’s coveted portfolio of clients.

Redesigning the signature suites at the Grand Hotel Stockholm has been a significant project for me and my design studio, not least because of the hotel’s history but also because it marks my first project in Sweden. When I look back on our design, it reminds me of the interiors I was surrounded by whilst growing up in my mother’s Stockholm house; it’s comfortable and private with the perfect touch of contemporary flair. Inspired by the comfort of one’s home, the suites reflect a residential look with soft furnishings, subtle pops of colour and pattern and contemporary-inspired furniture,” says Martin Brudnizki.
