Grand Hôtel strengthens its position with new rooms and suites

The Grand Hôtel in Stockholm continues its ongoing renewal and enhancement work with the goal of positioning itself as one of Europe’s leading five-star hotels. Following extensive renovation, 19 elegant new rooms and suites on the third floor are now ready for their first guests. An additional ten rooms on the floor will be inaugurated in May.

Interior designer Sanna Nathanson decorated the rooms on the first two floors of the hotel two years ago. Now, she has also designed new rooms and suites on the third floor in collaboration with Tengbom architects. The focus has been on period features from 1874, the year the Grand Hôtel was built, integrating modern comfort with hotel’s cultural heritage. The Bernadotte suite, which is the largest suite on the floor, and one of the hotel’s signature suites, is decorated in Empire style with modern accents.

“It is important to continue nurturing the classic spirit of the Grand Hôtel, while daring to renew and modernize, which is an ongoing process. Maintaining a leading position and meeting the needs of our guests requires continuous development. We are very pleased with Sanna Nathanson’s achievements and are ready for the next phase of the project,” said Marie-Louise Kjellström, Managing Director of the Grand Hôtel.

The colour scheme of the rooms and suites varies from grey to teal, including accents of turquoise, emerald green and burnt orange. The decorative cushions are sewn in exclusive silk, with fringes, tassels and ribbons adorning the furniture and textiles.

“Creating new, elegant and restful surroundings at the Grand Hôtel has once again been an exciting challenge. This time I have pushed the boundaries and played with a more daring palette in the new rooms and suites. And while each room has its own unique look, they share an eclectic style that was typical for the year 1874,” said Sanna Nathanson.

The Bernadotte suite – Empire style with modern accents
The Bernadotte suite is named after Sigvard Bernadotte, who, in collaboration with Svenskt Tenn, decorated the third floor when it was reinaugurated in 1965. In the early 1990s, the Grand Hotel’s in-house restorer and upholsterer Kurt Rehnström introduced the Empire style to the Bernadotte suite. Sanna Nathanson has now reintroduced this style, with a more modern interpretation, focusing on details that were typical for that period. The expansive four-room suite measures 165 m2 and has two bedrooms.
