The Grand Hôtel, Stockholm, unveils newly renovated veranda restaurant

On August 26 Stockholm is welcoming back one of its most loved dining destinations with the reopening of the iconic waterfront Veranda Restaurant, following an extensive renovation period that started at the beginning of the year. Famous for its traditional Swedish Smörgåsbord and its panoramic views of the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan, the Veranda Restaurant’s new design pays homage to the Grand Hôtel’s inherently Swedish heritage whilst incorporating a lighter and more modern interpretation.

The renovations are the latest works by internationally renowned hospitality design firm Richmond International at the Grand Hôtel, following the success of their highly-acclaimed re-design of The Cadier Bar in 2006.  In keeping with the classical style of the hotel, the Veranda Restaurant features exceptional items of furniture, suitably opulent windows, luxurious fabrics and harmonious shades.

The vernacular influences on the redesign are prevalent in the bespoke features, including the use of vintage textiles, archive patterns, a stone-top central display table and a decorative bronze screen. The addition of a Crystal chandelier, bronze-framed wine cabinets and washed oak all add refreshing touches, renewing the décor and enhancing the cosy atmosphere of the restaurant.

The Veranda Restaurant is open daily throughout the week for lunch, dinner and breakfast and offers diners a great selection of traditional Swedish dishes ranging from the traditional Swedish Smörgåsbord with the Grand Hôtel’s very own snaps, to highly seasonal menus such as a shellfish week menu, crayfish parties and the Mårten Gås goose fêt menu.

Gastronomes visiting the Grand Hôtel also can also book to dine in one of Mathias Dahlgren’s two Michelin-starred restaurants; the one-starred relaxed food bar, Matbaren, or the two-starred dining room, Matsalen, which has consistently appeared in the San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurant list.
