PR Award jury member Ingveig Tveranger: “When I couldn't find the perfect job I made my own”

Mynewsdesk is proud to announce that Ingveig Tveranger is one of five jury members of the Nordic PR Awards 2021. She is the PR and communications expert with the broad background. This makes her the perfect judge in the wide selection of nominations that the award receives every year. Let’s get to know Ingveig and her career a bit better.

She started her career as a journalist, mainly broadcasting in radio and TV. After 15 years she decided it was time for a change. “I always knew that being a journalist wasn’t forever” she states. Around 2008 she decided to leave NRK, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, to become an independent communications advisor.

Since then, Ingveig has been helping brands grow through effective and creative communication. She has been advising companies and executives through public relations, copywriting, emergency response communications, and media training for more than ten years. Apart from that, she was also responsible for the communication in building a new university hospital in Stavanger. Needless to say, Ingveig Trevanger has truly made a respectable name for herself within the industry.

Is there an area that you specialize in and/or are extra interested in?

I am a “potato” as we say here in Norway, and can contribute to many different areas. I think it is important to have a general overview of the status of this business, trends, and developments.

Why did you decide to work with PR and communication?

I always knew that being a journalist wasn’t forever. So I started looking for the perfect job. When I did not find it I made my own. It is such a rewarding journey, steep learning, tough decisions, and most importantly; so many excellent, smart and skilled people to work with and learn from.

What do you consider to be PR and communication professionals' most important skills?

Asking the right questions, understanding context and people skills are important, and being able to deliver. Get things done.

What are your top three skills?

My best skill-tip; deliver ahead of deadlines. I am always trying to deliver ahead, and that is one of my best takeaways from broadcasting. Knowing how to meet a deadline, again and again and again. And to add value to the customer's projects.

I try to be friendly and bring fun to the equation. Work should be fun and we get more creative and get better results if we sprinkle some fun over the work we do. And; always ask for what you want – not asking is 100 percent NO.

What do you think is the biggest benefit of using PR software to communicate with journalists?

Journalists are busy and constantly under pressure to deliver. There are many ways to keep in touch with reporters, to share ideas for stories and points of view. One of them is through PR-software solutions. I see this as very useful, as long as it is set up to serve both the journalists and the senders. When that happens, it is a total win-win.
