On 2nd April 2026, the final cable car in the SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project came into service between Birg and the Schilthorn. Around 200 guests attended the midday celebrations at the Schilthorn. Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. used this special occasion to launch its new brand identity at the same time.
Despite the closure of the Schilthorn summit until mid-March 2025 due to construction work, Schilthorn Cableway can look back on a record year. The gradual commissioning of the new cable car facilities led to a increase in transport capacity and a marked rise in passenger numbers. All business areas benefited from the growth. 2026 will now be dominated by the completion of the project.
Just in time for the start of the busy winter season, the second Funifor cableway between Mürren and Birg will go into operation on Friday, 28th November 2025. This brings the line’s full capacity to 800 passengers per hour. The construction phase – from cable pulling to commissioning – took six months.

On Friday, 20th June 2025, the 63rd Annual General Meeting of Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. took place in Mürren. 266 shareholders attended the meeting. On Saturday, 15th March 2025, the Schilthorn - Piz Gloria will open again after being inaccessible for five months. The first track of the two new Funifor cable cars will start operating and the 360° restaurant and the Top Shop will also open again. Construction work will continue in parallel with guest operations. The major project will be completed in spring 2026.
Since mid-October, the Schilthorn summit has not been accessible from Birg due to the construction of the new aerial cableway. The closure is directly reflected in the frequency and the turnover. Several catering establishments, the hotels industry and winter sports, on the other hand, paint a positive picture. Highlights of the past year were the opening of two new cableways.
Today, Saturday, 14th December 2024, the time has come: the world's steepest cable car starts operating. The new direct connection between Stechelberg and Mürren was officially opened the day before as part of a VIP opening ceremony. The 81st International Inferno Races will take place in Mürren from 22nd to 25th of January 2025. In this edition, the start will exceptionally not be on the Kleine Schilthorn. Online registration is still open until 15th September 2024.
The 62nd Annual General Meeting of the Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. took place on Friday, 21 June 2024. 204 shareholders attended the meeting in Mürren. The company can look back on a record year in 2023. The SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project will still have a major impact on day-to-day operations for some time to come.
The 2023 financial year of the Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. was strongly characterised by the major SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project. Nevertheless, record sales were once again achieved, mainly by the sectors cableway and gastronomy.
The SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX project is still on track. Of the four remaining objections, only one is currently pending. Schilthornbahn AG expects a solution by the end of the year. The agreement “A heart for Gimmelwald” was drawn up with the residents of Gimmelwald.
At the end of April, Schilthorn Cableway Ltd. submitted to the Federal Office of Transport the dossiers for the SCHILTHORN CABLEWAY 20XX planning approval application.
