Pharem and Leading Cities opens the applications for a free water treatment pilot worth 100,000 USD

Press release -

Applications are open: Apply for a Free Water Treatment solution from Pharem

Pharem Biotech and Leading Cities (AcceliGOV) is now accepting applications from any wastewater treatment plant or industrial water processor. The application is open until mid-March for a funded water treatment pilot. The pilot is worth $100,000 targeting organic micropollutants and unwanted organic compounds to reduce chemical emissions to our water environments

Chemical pollution to our waters is an increasingly growing concern. Many manmade chemicals, such as medicine residues, pesticides and plastic chemicals are released to our waters and causes great harm to the eco-systems, animal populations, general water quality and human health.

Pharem’s enzyme-based water treatment technology, Zymatic, presents many opportunities to achieve greener and more sustainable treatment solutions for both cities and industries. By combining advanced enzyme- and material development together with immobilization methods, Pharem have created a sand-like material which is easily implemented on various water environments. Using enzymes, Zymatic targets a wide range of treatment mechanisms for treatment of a wide range of different organic micropollutants (such as pharmaceutical residues, pesticides, plastic chemicals etc.). Zymatic can also be customized, or specialised, to target just a few specific unwanted organic compounds present in an industry process. Enzymes are efficient and the installations are more compact compared to many other technologies, which is advantageous when looking at improving the wastewater treatment in existing facilities.

Pharem Biotech was announced as the winner of AcceliCITY Resilience Challenge in October last year. Pharem´s water treatment solution, Zymatic, was selected from over 500 different contributions from around the world as the winner by a prominent panel of judges with representatives from the World Economic Forum, United Nations, Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation Resilience Center, QBE Ventures, and QBE North America.

“Opening the application for a free pilot is such a great start of the year, and we look forward to team up with a city or industry company to share Pharem´s passion for water treatment.” says Christian Ryen, COO and co-founder of Pharem. ”Zymatic can be tailored to broad or specific needs, and we accept applications from anyone who wants to improve their water treatment setup.”

Anyone is welcomed to apply for the pilot at AcceliGOV homepage. Once the application period is over a suitable participant will be selected and directly involved in the planning of the pilot.

About Leading Cities

Leading Cities is an international non-profit organization that connects innovative cities around the world with the emerging solutions of tomorrow. The organization's goal is to drive resilience and sustainability for all by unleashing the potential of the world’s cities. One of the ways they do this is by de-risking innovation for cities by sourcing and vetting solutions that will answer their most pressing challenges. The AcceliCITY program, which is among the top three govtech accelerators in the world, has sourced and vetted over 2,000 worldwide. Through AcceliGOV, Leading Cities aims to make it easier for municipalities to implement innovative solutions by providing them with pre-paid pilot projects.
