Bamboosh Respond to Shocking Study into Professionals’ Appearances

As a company at the forefront of customer service and in-person marketing, Bamboosh understands how crucial it is to uphold a professional appearance and demeanour. However, the firm has been left reeling with the results of a recent study and shared why they disagree with some of the findings.

Bamboosh is a sales and marketing company dedicated to combating the sluggish economy. They work with clients from across the UK but pride themselves on their home-grown spirit. The firm aims to help their clients increase sales, drive profits, generate quality leads and enhance brand loyalty. Within the sales and direct marketing industry, it is essential to have an approachable and professional manner as well as appearance; good salespeople make their customers feel and ease which subsequently leads to trust.

As a result, Bamboosh like to set a precedent and encourages their workforce to wear smart business attire. The thought behind the dress code is more than just to look professional within the workplace; the firm feels that a smart and well-polished look will help boost the confidence of their contractors and put them in the best mind frame to go out every day and achieve their goals.

However, despite this, the firm was outraged to learn of a recent study that outlined the impact of appearance during the hiring process. A survey of 500 hiring professionals (50.2 percent female and 49.8 percent male) by Fairygodboss in October, showed them photos of women of varying ages and races with different somatotypes, hairstyles, demeanours and clothing.

Those Individuals were asked to pick three adjectives that best fitted their opinion of each woman from a list of 11 adjectives which were: professional, unprofessional, leadership material, confident, intelligent, friendly, reliable, cold, superficial, insecure and lazy. The hiring managers most frequently selected type was a young, thin, Caucasian brunette.

Bamboosh were outraged to find this level of discrimination was going on within other companies. The approach taken by those within the study is backwards, unfit and in no way a marker of a candidates ability to do that job.

The firm prides themselves on their onboarding process, and do not follow these trends. Instead of overall appearance, Bamboosh pays far more attention to candidates attitudes, desire to learn and positivity when seeking out new contractors. They focus more on the traits that they consider to have more of an impact on their ability to work rather than something as superficial as appearance.
