Strawberry Makes Major Move in Finnslätten – Västerås’ Growing Tech Cluster

Västerås continues its expansion, and Strawberry is now taking the next step to meet the rising demand in one of Sweden's most dynamic industrial districts. With the establishment of a new Home Hotel at Finnslätten, a long-awaited meeting point is being created in the heart of the nation’s center for energy and automation. This initiative is further bolstered by the announcement that the area will receive its own train station within the next few years.

Finnslätten is currently undergoing a historic transformation. Under the banner "Vision Finnslätten," the area is evolving into a global hub for electrification and smart industry. With industry giants such as Softbank (formerly ABB Robotics) – currently investing billions in its new Robotics Campus – alongside Hitachi Energy, Alstom, and Westinghouse, the district is attracting top talent and visitors from all over the world.

Home Hotel: A Home Away from Home for Industry Experts
To provide a residential solution tailored to the needs of international guests and long-term consultants, Strawberry is introducing the Home Hotel concept. Featuring 167 rooms, a gym, and modern meeting facilities, the hotel sets a new standard for convenience at Finnslätten. The concept is rooted in simplicity and a "homely" feel: the room rate for all guests includes not only breakfast but also afternoon fika and dinner.

"Finnslätten is on its way to becoming Sweden’s answer to Silicon Valley for energy technology, and we want to be an integral part of that journey. Through Home Hotel, we offer an environment where guests can settle into a cozy atmosphere after a day with world-leading industrial firms. We remove the hassle of logistics and cooking so our guests can focus entirely on their work and networking," says Petter Stordalen, owner of Strawberry.

Strategic Location at the Future "Västerås Norra"
The establishment is perfectly timed with major infrastructure investments. The Swedish government’s national transport infrastructure plan for 2026–2037 confirms that Finnslätten will have its own train station. The station, funded through a unique local collaboration to secure industrial growth, is expected to be completed within two to three years.

This means that future hotel guests can travel sustainably and directly from Stockholm Central or Arlanda Airport to the "Västerås Norra" station – located just a stone's throw from the hotel entrance. The 400–500 million SEK investment in infrastructure positions the hotel as a central landmark in one of Sweden’s most accessible districts.

A Social Catalyst in the New District
The development of Finnslätten is focused on creating a space where work, services, and social life intertwine. The new hotel, built in premises owned by the real estate company Aroseken, will serve as a vital node in this ecosystem.

By offering 24-hour service, the hotel helps bring the area to life even after working hours. The hotel restaurant is designed to be a vibrant meeting place where overnight guests, local employees, and international partners can connect over a meal or a coffee.

"Finnslätten is developing rapidly, and the area needs more places where people can meet and thrive outside of the workday. The hotel will be an important hub – both for those working here and for guests visiting Finnslätten and Västerås. Strawberry’s decision to establish itself here is a strong testament to the growth and optimism defining this area," says Christian Brobeck, CEO of Aroseken.
