The audience favorite from last year is back: Gothenburg's Lucia Parade returns to Avenyn

Last year, 5,000 people gathered on Avenyn, and now it's time again! On Friday, December 13, World of Volvo, Göteborgs Lucia, and Avenyföreningen will host this year’s edition of Gothenburg's Lucia Parade. The success from last year will once again light up Avenyn, culminating in a heartwarming concert at Götaplatsen, performed by Göteborgs Lucia and over 150 choir members.
“We’re so excited to do this for the second year in a row – and this time, we’re also encouraging the audience to dress according to the theme,” says Ulrika Sandford, Marketing & Communications Manager at World of Volvo.

Since Hvitfeldtska gymnasiet took over the "Göteborgs Lucia" initiative in 2017, the aim has been to preserve the tradition while adding new dimensions. This vision inspired World of Volvo and Avenyföreningen to collaborate with Göteborgs Lucia and launch Gothenburg's Lucia Parade, which will now take place for the second year in a row on December 13.

“Last year’s incredible turnout highlighted the great interest in this type of event. Göteborgs Lucia is a wonderfully atmospheric tradition, and we’re thrilled to celebrate it in the heart of Gothenburg,” says Jessika Wassberg, CEO at Avenyföreningen.

The parade begins with iconic Volvo vehicles carrying Göteborgs Lucia along Avenyn. All vehicles will be decorated with a Lucia theme and will proceed to Götaplatsen, where the concert is going to be held.

“Last year, we noticed how much the audience appreciated the vehicles in the parade. This year, we’ve added a few more to create an even more magical experience,” says Ulrika Sandford, World of Volvo.

When the parade reaches Götaplatsen, a record-breaking Lucia choir featuring more than 150 music students from Hvitfeldtska gymnasiet will spread spread joy and faith in the future through an enchanting concert.

“It’s an honor to once again sing at Götaplatsen and share our message of light and warmth. The fact that last year’s concert was so well attended feels fantastic, and it’s especially heartwarming that the event gives so many of the city’s residents the chance to see and hear Göteborgs Lucia on the Lucia Day,” says Tove Darelid, producer of Göteborgs Lucia and music teacher at Hvitfeldtska gymnasiet.

This year, the audience is also encouraged to dress according to the theme – so feel free to bring the glitter! The Lucia Parade will proceed along Avenyn at 5:00 PM, with the concert starting around 5:30 PM at Götaplatsen.
