Bastian Buus claims dominant pole and victory at Okayama

A successful weekend for the Danish Porsche driver, who secured pole position and celebrated two podium finishes in this weekend’s edition of GT World Challenge Asia at Japan's Okayama International Circuit.

Bastian Buus arrived at the Okayama round of GT World Challenge Asia with high ambitions – and they were more than fulfilled. The Danish Porsche factory driver and his Origine Motorsport teammate, Lu Wei, claimed third place in Saturday’s sprint race, while Sunday brought a pole position and, ultimately, victory for the pairing.

“It has been a fantastic weekend! For the second year in a row I managed to take pole here at Okayama, and to also score a podium in both races and a win in one of them is absolutely a success. Huge effort from the entire team,” said Bastian Buus.

With the strong results from the weekend, the team championship was secured, and Buus’ teammate re-entered the title fight with just 14 points to the leaders. Buus himself is not in contention, as he has not taken part in every round this season – however, the Dane has been confirmed to support the team at the season finale in Beijing on October 17–19.

“It will be exciting. It’s a brand-new street circuit that has never been used before, which means there’s no opportunity to prepare in the simulator. It’s straight in at the deep end, and then we’ll see what happens,” explained the Dane.

The next challenge for Bastian Buus comes in just two weeks with the 1,000-kilometer race at Suzuka – a round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, where the Dane will once again compete with Origine Motorsport. Green flag on Sunday, September 14.
