Mikkel Jensen Back on the IMSA Podium at Road America

Strong comeback for Mikkel Jensen and Steven Thomas, securing a third-place finish for TDS Racing in this weekend’s IMSA race at Road America.

After being forced to retire from the six-hour race at Watkins Glen earlier this summer, Mikkel Jensen made a strong comeback in this weekend’s IMSA race at Road America. Together with American teammate Steven Thomas, the Dane clinched a third-place finish in the LMP2 class in a race that actually had potential for even more.

“It feels great to be back on the IMSA podium again. It’s a big boost for the team after our setback at Watkins Glen, but at the same time also a bit bittersweet, as we were on course for something even better,” said Mikkel Jensen.

It was Steven Thomas who started the race from fifth position in the LMP2 class, and the American delivered a strong stint before handing the car over to Mikkel Jensen in third place. By then, the two-hour and 40-minute race had already developed into a classic IMSA showdown with plenty of action, incidents, and Full Course Yellows.

“Unfortunately, we lost several positions during my pit stop due to heavy traffic in pit lane and another car cutting through our area, which delayed the process. When I was ready to go back out, a queue of cars had built up, and once I rejoined the race, we had suddenly dropped to seventh,” explained Jensen.

The Dane, however, fought his way back through the field and managed to save enough fuel in the final phase of the race to attack and overtake competing cars towards the end – crossing the finish line in third place in class.

“Third place was the best we could do today. Had we avoided the pit lane incident that cost us several positions, I’m confident we could have fought for the victory. But it was a strong effort by the team, and now we look forward to Indianapolis.”

The next round of the IMSA LMP2 championship, the six-hour race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, takes place on September 21. Before that, Mikkel Jensen will be back in action with Team Peugeot TotalEnergies for the sixth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Texas on September 7.
