2023-12-05 Seminar: Drivers for Change – Efforts to reduce inappropriate use of antibiotics in animal production

The emerging antibiotic resistance poses a significant future threat and is already today resulting in millions of deaths annually. Diseases that we have been able to cure with antibiotics have again become life threatening. Inappropriate use of antibiotics in human medicine but also in animal production causes the problems.

This seminar focuses on ways forward to reduce inappropriate use of antibiotics in animal production. Cooperation built on responsibility and transparency between different sectors in society – business, retailers, authorities, policy and science, is needed. And also, structural changes in farming systems. Farmers as well as consumers must be offered increased knowledge and skills. It offers a global overview of the situation as well as concrete examples on development of methods and tools to deal with inappropriate use of antibiotics.

The seminar is arranged by the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry and Axfoundation through the ‘Antibiotic Platform – from farm to fork’, a cooperation between Axfoundation and the Academy that was founded to gather strength and coordinate a wide array of actors across sectors to quicken the pace of work against antibiotic resistance. Welcome to an interesting and urgent seminar on one of our times greatest challenges.
