The topic of artificial intelligence is on the agenda of an increasing number of companies. This is also the case for SamCert. The Swedish consulting firm is now a pioneer and the first DNV customer in Europe to receive a certificate for its management system in accordance with ISO/IEC 42001:2023. The power of independent verification provides significant added value and is crucial for all organizations. Using the risk-based certification method, DNV applies a value-creating approach to certification requirements. The aim is not only to ensure that the basic requirements are met but also to open up new perspectives for the organization and to ensure that customers have confidence in their ability to deliver systematic improvement work in relation to the complex management principles in the AI standard.

“SamCert is a pioneer by having received the first AI certificate (Artificial Intelligence) in Europe according to the new ISO/IEC 42001 standard issued by DNV. AI is not a temporary trend; the technology requires and deserves to be managed in a mature and trustworthy manner.” says Mubashir Virk, Sales Manager at DNV Business Assurance Sweden.

For Ann-Sofie Gustafsson, CEO of SamCert AB, there was no doubt that her organization could benefit from the international standard for artificial intelligence and potential certification of management systems.

“It is fantastic that our small Swedish consulting firm has received the first certificate in Europe according to the new standard,” says Ann-Sofie Gustafsson.

“This means that we are ready to help others while managing both risks and opportunities with our own AI use. We have already started to see significant business benefits from using AI to streamline our operations.”

In response to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and the challenges it brings, ISO and IEC have created the ISO/IEC 42001 standard, which is the first international standard for AI management systems (AIMS) applicable to all types of organizations and industries. AI and its associated subset of machine learning have great potential to benefit society and the economy in many ways. Although the technology is intended to be beneficial, improper use of the technology or lack of control poses a significant risk that requires careful management.

The auditor and certification body DNV was officially recognized by RvA as an accredited certification body for the international standard for AI management systems ISO/IEC 42001 in December 2024.

Fun fact: SamCert received its certificate on December 18, 2024, on the anniversary of the official standard’s entry into force (December 18, 2023).
