Julian Rassat ate seafood for every meal for a month – and got a new life
What happens when you eat seafood for every meal for an entire month? Norwegian fisherman and former participant in the TV program “Kompani Lauritzen”, Julian Rassat (27), took on the challenge. The result can now be seen in an entertaining series about taste, health, and the joy of food.
With his warm humor and quick-witted personality, Julian Rassat from the Norwegian city Fredrikstad became a beloved participant in the program “Kompani Lauritzen” on TV2 in 2022.
Now, he is the main character in a five episode series about seafood consumption.
During a period of 31 days, Rassat tried a wide range of fish and shellfish dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu included cod, salmon, herring, mackerel, prawns, mussels, wolffish, stockfish, and fish gratin — prepared in different ways and served in various settings.
Thoroughly examined by a doctor
“We wanted to find someone willing to eat seafood for all meals over a month and have the results documented through medical tests. It was bold of Julian to accept the challenge, and we are excited to show how increased seafood consumption has affected his life and health,” says Martin Skaug, Communications Director at the Norwegian Seafood Council.
Julian Rassat was thoroughly examined by a doctor both before and after the 31 days, and along the way he received excellent support from the captain of the Norwegian Culinary Team, Håvard Onsøyen, as well.
“A better version of myself”
“I discovered how easy it was to prepare seafood, and that it tastes good. When I started reflecting on this and focusing more on an active lifestyle, the results followed. Without revealing too much, I can say that today I am a much better version of myself. I now eat fish three times a week, have much more energy, and feel more positive. Seafood and exercise are my best health tips,” says Julian Rassat.
“We hope more people will be inspired”
“We wanted to show that seafood is not only healthy and sustainable, but also incredibly versatile and easy to prepare. Fish and shellfish are an important part of a healthy diet, but it is not just about physical health. What Julian experiences in the series — more energy, a better mood, and an overall sense of well being — shows that the food we eat also affects how we feel. That might be the most important benefit, and something we hope will inspire many others,” says Martin Skaug.
The series is initiated and funded by The Norwegian Fishermen’s Association, The Norwegian Seafood Council, The Norwegian Seafood Federation, The Norwegian Seafood Research Fund, Norges Sildesalgslag (a pelagic sales team owned by the fishermen), Norges Råfisklag (a sales team owned by the fishermen), Fiskebåt (an interest and work organization for the Norwegian oceangoing fishing fleet), Norsk Villfisk (an organization representing the five sales teams owned by the fishermen) and Sjømatbedriftene (a national and politically independent employers' and business organization).
