Award-winning entrepreneur and owner of London’s freshest and fastest growing sales firm, Tom Harris sat down recently to give a tell-all interview.

The MD of London Sales Execs recently won Business Owner of the Year at the 2018 UK Sales Awards, and following that momentous win, Mr Harris sat down for a tell-all interview, providing insight about his path to success.

London Sales Execs: About the firm

How do you separate yourself from the crowd?

“I try not to compare myself to others. I focus more on what I do and how I can get better. I am my own benchmark.”

What motivates you to work hard every day?

“Three things motivate me at any given time. One is the fact that I’m building a future for myself and my family and the hard work I put in today will be reaped at some point in the future. The second is the professionals I work with, ensuring they get an opportunity to realise their own potential. Thirdly, would be to come through for my mentors, coaches, and everyone that believed in me, to show them that the time they invested was worth it, and essentially make them proud.”

What practices lead you to success?

“First and foremost, organisation. Taking time to learn to become a master at what I do, and putting people first. I need to continue to learn and grow to continue to add value to the team I work with. It’s my job to empower people to achieve their goals, encourage them and give them the tools they need to succeed – plus some pressure from time to time.”

What advice do you have for being number 1 on a sales campaign?

“Having a vision of being number one is the first step. Every day I try to remind myself that nobody cares what happened yesterday or last week or last month, all that matters is what we do today.Once you’re number one, then it takes discipline to remain there. It is is an important test of a leader, and I’ve been guilty of relaxing and taking my foot off the gas in the past. Now I try to maintain the habits that got us to number one and find ways to improve to push the business, myself, and our people to the next level.”

What have you learned about running a company?

“The main take away is that it all comes down to the leader; If things are good, It’s my fault, if they are bad, the same is also true. Don’t wait for people to do things for you, be the creator. Drive business daily in the direction you want it to go.”

What is your daily routine?

“Generally, my day begins with meeting my team at a coffee shop before we start. It’s a fun way to get people warmed up for the day. Primarily our days are focused on sales techniques and hitting targets, except Friday where we run a full day of product training, to ensure all new sales representatives receive a solid foundation of education and the right information to represent our clients with complete confidence, professionalism and transparency.”

What have been your most significant investments to date?

“My biggest investments are into the professionals I work with. I have implemented a recognition and reward culture, offering bonuses, incentives and prizes to top performers. When people feel appreciated for their efforts, it boosts morale and sales simultaneously go up.”

What advice do you have for new entrepreneurs?

“Be humble. Don’t get comfortable. Look to the bigger picture and back it up with the appropriate work ethic. Anyone can talk a good game, but not everyone is willing to put in the work to make it happen.”
