Press release -
“Ellinor! Ellinor! Ellinor! – a ship, a daughter, a queen.” After the success of Sjögång, the Taube Day concert returns to World of Volvo on 11 & 12 March, 2026
Following this year's major success – praised by both audience and critics – the Taube Day returns to World of Volvo with a grand new tribute to Evert Taube, 50 years after his passing.
During the annual Taube Week, his unique artistic legacy is celebrated – the songs, the poems, the stories, and the joy of life that continues to shape the soul of Swedish culture. On 11 March and on Evert Taube’s birthday, 12 March, the grand Taube Day concert will take place. This year’s performance is titled:
“Ellinor! Ellinor! Ellinor! – a ship, a daughter, a queen.”
The performance is a musical and theatrical odyssey in two acts, where the name Ellinor is woven through Taube’s entire body of work – from his first song “Ellinors vals” (1917), where Ellinor is a Bohuslän sailing vessel, via “På kryss med Ellinor,” “Brevet från Lillan,” and “Ellinor dansar,” to the prose book Vallfart till Trubadurien och Toscana, in which Taube pays tribute to Eleanor of Aquitaine – the symbol of the golden age of love and troubadours.
“To interpret Taube in this context feels like stepping into a living legacy. His music is both Swedish and universal, simple and sophisticated at the same time. And to do it on his very birthday – it feels like a musical declaration of love,” says Lisa Nilsson.
Taube Week and Taube Day 2026 not only mark fifty years since Evert Taube’s passing, but also his constant presence in our culture – from Calle Schewens vals to Möte i monsunen, both recently included in the Swedish cultural canon announced earlier this year.
“Ellinor returns throughout Taube’s songs, prose, and drama as an echo of everything he loved: the sea, love, art. This year we wanted that thread to become the very theme – a journey through his worlds and his women, both real and mythical,” says Martin Nyström, host, scriptwriter, and founder of the Taube’s World Foundation.
