The Hasselblad Foundation and World of Volvo present: To the Moon and Back – the story of the Hasselblad camera in space

In a unique collaboration, the Hasselblad Foundation and World of Volvo invite you on a journey into space – and back again. The new exhibition To the Moon and Back – the story of the Hasselblad camera in space opens on September 19, 2025, and takes visitors behind the scenes of one of humanity’s most iconic moments: the first steps on the Moon.

A Gothenburg camera on the Moon
When the Apollo astronauts documented their missions with a Hasselblad camera – developed in Gothenburg – they created images that changed our perception of both Earth and the universe. The photographs became not only technical masterpieces but also symbols of humanity’s curiosity and courage.

The exhibition tells the story of the camera technology behind this achievement and of Erna and Victor Hasselblad – the visionary couple who laid the foundation for the brand that made its way all the way into space.

Unique objects and historic images
Visitors will get to experience original cameras, unique historical artifacts, and iconic space photographs. The material is taken from the Hasselblad Foundation’s extensive archives.

“The journey of the Hasselblad camera to the Moon is as much a story of human innovation as it is of Swedish engineering. We want to share that story with a new generation of curious explorers,” says Andréas Hagström, Curator at the Hasselblad Foundation and responsible for the exhibition.

“World of Volvo is a meeting place where we celebrate creativity, innovation, and humanity’s spirit of exploration. That’s why we are proud to host an exhibition that quite literally looks to the stars,” says Viktoria Wallner, Chief Experience Officer at World of Volvo.
