From Borders to Shared Space - BOSS Project Supports Development of Estonian Food Tourism

BOSS From Borders to Shared Space program fund, among other projects run by Haaga-Helia, is supporting the development of Estonian Food Tourism, which had its first workshop held on October 8th in Tallinn.

Up to 20 key food, tourism and food tourism stakeholders convened at  FoodStudio under the title „Strategic Context of Food Tourism“, in order to present and discuss the past, present and future of the food tourism in the strategic context of Finland and Estonia.

On behalf of Haaga-Helia, Kristian Sievers presented the the past, present and future of the food tourism in Finland along with the strategy launched in the spring.

Estonian issues were presented by the  Ministry of Rural Affairs, Enterprise EstoniaEstonian Tourist Board and NGO Estonian Rural Tourism.

During the exchange of ideas moderated by Ain Hinsberg, it was noted on several occasions that there are more similar issues than differences in Finland and Estonia in the addressed fields,  and this provides a promising background for the cooperation.

The next workshop was held for the entrepreneurs on October 30th and the project will by wound up by the final event on December 1st.The main idea of the project in question is to expose the Estonian food tourism stakeholders to the relevant Finnish experience, by using monthly workshops in order to find out the opportunities for compiling a larger and longer food tourism cooperation.

    Two tourism students from Haaga-Helia got awarded as second in an innovation competition arranged by Aéroports de Paris. ”PaxHub” team members Juha Kätkä and Christian Pauli were studying Aviation Management at The IUBH School of Business and Management in Bad Honnef, Germany. They are 3rd year tourism students at the university Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland

  • September is the Cuisine Month in Estonia

    The traditional Estonian Cuisine Month will this year be opened on September 5 during the Viimsi Farmers' Market event held at The Museum of Coastal Folk. The month filled with food events is arranged and coordinated by the Estonian Ministry of Rural affairs.

    Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Centre in Estonia / Haaga-Helia UAS has become a member of the Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association as of today. The Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association is a representative organisation of employers that is public, voluntary and operates on democratic principles. The Estonian Hotel and Restaurant Association was established on 12 February 1992.

  • Tallinn-Helsinki ferry line celebrated its 50th reopening anniversary

    On July 7, the Port of Tallinn celebrated the 50-year anniversary of re-establishing regular ferry service between Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, and Helsinki, the capital of Finland. On the occasion of shipping line's 50th anniversary, Ain Kaljurand and Port of Helsinki's Director Kimmo Mäki placed in Old City Harbour’s A-terminal a memorial shield commemorating the first journey of the ship.

    This June Tallinn Zoo was evaluated by customers as family tourism destination within the BOSS-funded project implemented by Haaga-Helia UAS.   • Tallinn ranked 46th in ICCA ranking for 2014

    Tallinn was ranked 46th in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) ranking for 2014 released this summer among 1594 destinations all over the world, as 54 of the events held in Tallinn qualified as international conferences according to ICCA criteria.
