The benefits of Organic Cotton

Organic cotton shows great benefits at various levels of the value chain — for the farmers and the consumers and not least environmentally.

From the farmers' point of view it's a sustainable and long term investment to focus on organic cotton production. Demand for organic cotton is constantly rising, since more and more buyers are looking for high quality cotton that is produced according to strict environmental and social standards. An organic certificate gives organic cotton farmers access to this dynamic market, thus reducing their dependency on the fluctuating world market for conventional cotton and allowing them to get a better price for their product.

Furthermore, the organic production model is often based on long-term partnerships between all the stakeholders along the value chain, strengthening the farmer's economic security.

Organic agriculture protects the health of people and the planet by reducing the overall exposure to toxic chemicals from synthetic pesticides that can end up in the ground, air, water and food supply, and that are associated with health consequences from asthma to cancer. Because organic agriculture doesn't use toxic and persistent pesticides, choosing organic products is an easy way to for you as a consumer to make a difference.

When the production of cotton and other materials takes fair conditions and good and sustainable handicrafts principles into account, they last longer, are more durable, and age with grace — and  I even postulate that they provide more satisfaction and that you will automatically slow down your consumption, because products of high quality satisfy you more and for a longer time.
