Swedish Muncipality First in the World to Use Social Interview Robot Tengai in Recruitment

Last week Swedish unbiased recruitment and staffing agency TNG launched Tengai Unbiased, the world’s first social AI interview robot. Tengai is developed in collaboration with Furhat Robotics and is now available as an in-house service at TNG. Just one week after the launch Upplands-Bro municipality signed up to use the robot in the recruitment of a strategic digital coordinator. Making them the first establishment in the world to use an automated and social AI-robot in a recruitment process.

The Upplands-Bro municipality, located outside Stockholm, has set digitalization as a priority for the community and is currently rolling out a variety of future technologies like artificial intelligence.

The municipality now takes the next step towards modernization by pushing their digital agenda to a new level. They will be the first client to work with TNG’s newly launched social interview robot, Tengai Unbiased.

The Swedish recruitment and staffing agency TNG has worked and developed an unbiased recruitment process over the past 15 years and is now taking the next step to disrupt the job interview by preventing unconscious bias to affect the hiring decision.

Inclusion and Diversity Software
Tengai is the first physical AI interview robot in the world. She is unbiased by design as she doesn’t see age, gender, clothing, backgrounds, and looks. She comes with inclusion and diversity software and perform blind interviews and then evaluate and measure soft-skills and personality traits. Tengai is redefining what an objective assessment of the interview process looks like by pushing recruitment tech to a new level and assisting recruiters and managers to make data-driven hiring decisions, instead of decisions based on gut feeling.

The AI-robot will also make the candidate selection more fair since every job seeker is asked the same open-ended and closed situational based questions, without letting presumptions or unconscious bias influence the evaluation.

"By utilizing digital advancement and the latest artificial intelligence technology, Upplands-Bro municipality will push the boundaries in how we recruit. It is very exciting to be a part of the early stages of the rollout of Tengai and I am looking forward to an even more successful hiring process," Director of Local Government in Upplands-Bro municipality Karl Öhlander says.

It’s a bold decision by Upplands-Bro to commit and use the social AI-robot, according to Elin Öberg Mårtenzon, Chief Innovation Officer at TNG and Tengai:

"I have worked with Tengai for several months and I know how great the product is, but it needs an innovative client to see the potential. I am impressed by Upplands-Bro for taking the lead and being the first in the world who have decided to use a social AI-robot in the hiring process. I am especially pleased to see the interest from the public sector as our first client and I can’t wait to follow the development as we move toward digitalization!"
