Haaga-Helia and Estonian Business School started cooperation developing Estonian Hospitality business and know-how

As Haaga-Helia had recognized the need for the changes in the current and future hospitality business environment in Estonia, the decision was made within its global mission to enter the Estonian education and training markets in co-operation with the Estonian Business School (EBS).

The main goal in this partnership for Haaga-Helia is to be present and participate in the development of the Estonian hospitality and tourism industry by the education and training.

Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Center in Estonia is set up to serve the hospitality industry and companies operating in this sector. The core objective is to help them to accomplish better and improve their financial performance”, commented the Vice President, Commercial Director Jouni Ahonen from Haaga-Helia.

According to EBS´s Vice Rector for International Collaboration, Toomas Danneberg, the goal of the cooperation is to bring internationally highly valued know-how of hospitality and tourism management to Estonia. Additionally for both partners, the export of education is increasingly important as is the co-development of a practical start-up entrepreneurship program in the course of bachelor as well as master studies.

„We have already started with start-up camps, which take place in Estonia as well as in Finland and bring together students from both schools“.

The cooperation between Haaga-Helia and EBS is during the study year 2015-2016 mostly based on sharing the hospitality knowhow and education in the format of short business courses, degree studies and project-based research and development. Haaga-Helia has also started to establish a partnership network, Hospitality Insiders Club, which gathers hospitality managers together and introduces to the latest trends and operational concepts in the business.

Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Center in Estonia is headquartered at the EBS campus in Tallinn and at present two coordinators market and implement Haaga-Helia activities in Estonia there.

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and Estonia Business School launched cooperation by signing an agreement on September 9th at the Hospitality Knowhow Conference held by the Haaga-Helia Compentence Centre in Estonia at EBS. The agreement was signed on behalf of Haaga-Helia by the President and CEO Teemu Kokko and on behalf of EBS by the Rector and Professor Arno Almann.

Content-wise the agreement set the framework for cooperation in short business training courses, degree studies, RDI and projects and entrepreneurship activities.

The cooperation launching event held by the Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Center in Estonia on September 9th at EBS focused after the opening by on the introductory training sessions presenting the short business courses to be held later during the study year in question.

The event was very successful as 120 participants registered in advance and most of them visited the event as well. The participants expressed gratitude for arranging such an interesting event and welcomed Haaga-Helia warmly to the Estonian market in cooperation with EBS.

  • Short courses in Hospitality: Haaga-Helia's top experts share their knowledge in Estonia

    On October 6th Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Center in Estonia opened the delivery of their own short courses, with the first of a 2-day short course in Hospitality Industry Managerial Accounting. It was delivered by the coach Timo Saranpää (M.Sc.(econ.), and assisted by Elisa Aunola and Sven Lööndre. The second day of the course will take place on October 28th.

  • Demand Management for Hospitality Leaders' Course was a Success

    ​The opening period of the short courses by the Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Center in Estonia has been very successful, as the first two courses received very positive feedback from the participants. The coaches also enjoyed the feeling of sharing their know-how with a very eager target group.

  • Mailis Pokk, winner of free AHLEI course in Haaga-Helia's stand at Tallinn FoodFair

    Haaga-Helia participated at the 16th Tallinn FoodFair (TFF) in Tallinn on October 28-30 and among other activities drew lots at the fair stand in order to award one participant in the end of the event with a free AHLEI (American Hospitality & Lodging Education Institute) online course delivered via Haaga-Helia as the certified AHLEI provider in the region.

  • Lean Management, a key to success

    The Lean Management short course “Lean Management as quality and operations management tool in hospitality” by Jalmari Eklund on February 18th and March 3rd was executed with a great success meaning that the participants, who came to the first day being not aware to the full extent of what Lean is all about, started their second day with great enthusiasm.

  • Latvia, a project in motion

    Within its global mission Haaga-Helia entered Estonian market last year, and has now been preparing for entering Latvia as the next option in the Baltic Sea Region. At present there are 4 different missions on the table, in the form of cooperation, with: the Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association, the Latvian Medical Tourism Cluster, the City of Jurmala, and the City of Riga/Live Riga.

  • A Successfully Launched Third Short Course by Haaga-Helia, in Estonia

    After the first two short courses (October 6th and 28th on the subject of Hospitality Industry Managerial Accounting by the Timo Saranpää and November 5th the course „Demand Management for Hospitality Leaders“ by Jere Talonen the short course delivery continued with the first day of the course “Principles and Practices of Hospitality Revenue Management on November 17th delivered by Nina Niemi.

  • Short Courses in Estonia are Mission Accomplished!

    Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Centre in Estonia delivered successfully 6 short business courses during the pilot study year 2015/16. The events – mostly 2-days per course - were held at the EBS main building and the average number of participants per course was around 15. All in all, over 25 participants were present during the exciting opening year.

    Haaga-Helia Hospitality Competence Centre in Estonia delivered successfully 4 Hospitality Insiders Club events during the pilot study year 2015/16. The same format has been run in Finland by Haaga-Helia for 3 years now successfully. The events – 1-day per club meeting - brings together managers and experts from the hospitality field from all over Estonia.
