Indoor cycling platform Motosumo invites its users to help our oceans with its #TrainForSeas campaign.

Press release -

Indoor cycling platform Motosumo invites its users to help our oceans with its #TrainForSeas campaign.

In celebration of UN's World Oceans Day, Motosumo, the indoor cycling platform, announces its second Cycle For Change initiative with the #TrainForSeas campaign, which will run on June 8-14, 2023.

The campaign is based on the successful #TeamSeas fundraising program which has cleaned 33.358.662 pounds of trash from the world’s oceans to date. Every US dollar donated is one less pound of trash in the ocean. Motosumo invites its global community of cyclists to help champion this cause.

For every 3,500 calories collectively burned during the campaign week, Motosumo commits to removing one pound of trash from the ocean, to a maximum of 1,500 pounds. "We see #TrainForSeas as a blend of fitness and an environmentally conscious cause. We want to empower our users to make a tangible, positive impact," said Motosumo CEO, Kresten Juel Jensen.

This initiative is open to all Motosumo members, whether they participate in live or on-demand classes, at home or in gyms. As users cycle and burn calories, Motosumo converts their collective effort into donations for #TeamSeas.

How does the campaign work?

All it takes to participate is access to a stationary bike, a smartphone, and the Motosumo app. During the campaign week, Motosumo converts the collectively burned calories into donations to #TeamSeas. The organization behind #TeamSeas is a sister organization to #TeamTrees, which Motosumo supported earlier this year when their members collectively planted 1,074 new trees through their previous #CycleForChange campaign.

Details of the campaign's progress and Motosumo's #TeamSeas contribution can be followed on the dedicated #TrainForSeas landing page, which will show an ocean cleanup conversion. Even though there’s a leaderboard, #TrainForSeas isn’t a competition. The goal is to foster global environmental consciousness by contributing something together as a community.

Our commitment to social and environmental responsibility resonates with our community of riders. They not only enjoy their fitness journeys but also want to ride for impact, which aligns perfectly with our ethos,” Jensen adds.

Pushing for positive change together

The Motosumo platform emphasizes team and community building. Motosumo plans to run more ‘‘Cycle For Change” campaigns and invites users to help decide the nature of these campaigns.

“The community feeling is important to our users and they push themselves harder when they train with others - either in the same room or virtually. By adding this extra impact layer to the work out experience, we’ll all end up doing something together for the greater good,” Kresten ends.

Motosumo is known for its community-focused approach and impressive 4.8/5.0 rating, and is also welcoming newcomers to participate. The only prerequisites are a stationary bike, a smartphone, and the Motosumo app.

The Motosumo app is available both as a free version with non-invasive ads, and as a Premium plan offering more features. Users can download Motosumo free for iOS and Android.

What is #TeamSeas?
#TeamSeas, a sibling campaign to #TeamTrees, is a creator-led fundraising initiative that had a target of $30M to remove 30M pounds of trash from oceans, rivers, and beaches. They have already achieved this but continue with their mission. They partner with the Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup, distributing donations evenly.

What happens to the trash removed from the ocean?
Items like cans, glass, and plastic beverage bottles will be separated and recycled when possible. In cases where contamination of the trash and/or lack of local recycling makes it impossible to reprocess, trash will go to a proper disposal site in accordance with local regulations and capacity.

Why has Motosumo chosen to #TeamSeas as a donation partner?
We have already donated money to plant trees with #TeamTrees which is a sister organization to #TeamSeas. The donation system is transparent, traceable, and credible. The purpose matches Motosumo values, and we trust the initiative and the people behind the project.
