Formex in summary – the home furnishings industry is flourishing

This year Formex, the Nordic region’s biggest interiors fair, celebrates its 60th anniversary. The fair usually takes place twice a year, but the August event had to be cancelled. Instead, Team Formex provided interior design inspiration via city showcases and digital seminars – an initiative that proved very popular.

Stockholm Design Week attracts visitors from all over the world

Architects, designers and journalists from all over the world will be coming to Stockholm to attend Stockholm Design Week and Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 3-9. With the fair being the hub Stockholm will be buzzing with almost 200 design events, exhibitions and parties.

Doshi Levien presents an abstract version of their studio

Design studio Doshi Levien is the Guest of Honour at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2020. With their exhibition in the Entrance Hall, the Indian-British designers aim to give visitors an insight into their creative process, revealing for the very first time, their drawings and prototypes side by side with production pieces.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair celebrates 70 years

February 2020 marks the arrival of the 70th Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. The occasion will be celebrated with an exhibition showcasing design classics from the 1950s to the present day, all of which have maintained their ongoing relevance – despite hot trends and new launches – by still being in production.

Formex is celebrating 60 years as the Nordic region’s largest meeting place for interior design with an up-to-the-minute inspirational exhibition – created by the international Carlin Creative Trend Bureau

At Formex on January 14–17, 2020 the focus will be on the challenges faced by retailers when the international trend and content agency Carlin takes over Stockholmsmässan’s Entrance Hall with their Retail Hub exhibition. The aim is to both inspire and offer new insights to exhibitors and visitors by highlighting the latest themes in retail.

Lots of exciting names for Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks 2020

With 40 programmed events and 100 contributors, Stockholm Design & Architecture Talks 2020 is securing its position as one of Scandinavia’s leading discussion platforms for design and architecture. – This is our most dynamic and varied program ever, says Program Manager Ulrika Kjellström Attar.

Design studio Doshi Levien is Guest of Honour 2020

As this year’s Guest of Honour the London-based studio Doshi Levien has been commissioned to create an installation for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair in February. Run by Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, the studio has an international reputation for combining culture, technology, industrial design and true craftsmanship.

This year’s Design Talents at Formex

Design Talents is Formex’s department for showcasing new talent, where independent designers and design groups can both sell their products and display them for buyers, partners, producers and the press/media. This year’s exhibitors include several designers with innovative ceramics, fabric patterns that highlight women's history, and a building set for children.

Renaissance in wood

One clear trend in interior architecture and design is the growing interest in wood. Swedish coniferous trees in particular appear to be back in favor. At this year’s Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, which will be held February 5-9, the fair’s exhibitions will feature a lot of pine and spruce.

Nordic Designer of the Year – Formex NOVA award – nominees appointed

Formex has established the Formex NOVA award – Nordic Designer of the Year, to promote high-quality Nordic design created by a still relatively unknown designer working in the Nordic interior design industry. A jury appoints the nominees for the award. The winner will be presented 20 August.

The creation of the design objects in the Nationalmuseum’s new restaurant in an exhibition at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair

An exhibition at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair will be entitled “NM & A New Collection”. It will exhibit the joint creation of the Nationalmuseum’s new restaurant. The exhibition shows the process surrounding the interior design of the restaurant and the production of eighty new interior objects as well as the work on the renovation of the museum.

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair establishes a new design award – Born Classic

Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair is establishing a new design award – Born Classic – in collaboration with the auction house Bukowskis, which will form the jury. The award will go to a piece of furniture or lighting that has qualities that could make it a design classic of the future. The objective is to bring attention to and encourage good, long lasting design.

Design Bar in the eye of the storm

The Norwegian design studio Anderssen & Voll has been given the assignment to create the Design Bar for Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, February 5-9, 2019. This time, the menu is being created in collaboration with Frida Ronge, Culinary Director at the restaurants Tak and UNN in Stockholm.

Neri&Hu named Guest of Honour 2019

Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, founding partners of the award-winning Chinese Neri&Hu, an inter-disciplinary architectural design practice, have received the assignment to create an installation at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair. This is the 16th time the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair has invited a well-respected international designer or architect to create an installation.

International guests at Formex

This fall’s Formex, August 21-24, has an international flair. For example, 150 years of diplomatic ties between Sweden and Japan will be celebrated with an exhibition on Japanese design and craftsmanship. The U.S. trend analyst Lilly Berelovich will also hold a seminar at the fair.

Formex scholarship to students from Beckmans College of Design

Design and interiors fair Formex has established a design scholarship that will be given to a new graduate from Beckmans College of Design. The aim is to create visibility in the industry for as of yet unestablished designers who through the fair are given the opportunity to come into contact with buyers and the media.
